Consider taking that soft blue green from your rug and painting at least one wall that color. get some blue green throw pillows. replace end table with a golden metal/metalic table. Add some other metal accents to room.

i vote you get rid of the two glass cabinets i think that would lighten everything a bit. because they are in corners your end tables may not matter, we could add some reflective to your lamps though

i feel you need to go a little brighter on your couches, maybe in your rug too?

Wow! Thank you, everyone! I love the lamp suggestions. The sad thing is, the lamps were the first thing I bought for the room and I build it from there. But, I see what you are saying about getting bright lamps. The rug has blue, green, and brown in it. The pillows on the sofas now are light blue. I guess I need to add more pillows with some green in it. I cant get rid of the media cabinets next to the bar stools, I already don't have enough storage for the room. Oh, I will look into adding a floor lamp. The room is dark for sure. I love the 3-stem Hydrangea. I'll be checking into that. I love the suggestion for the end tables, but I need storage. Whatever I get has to have drawers. Thanks so, so much everyone!

What happened? Me. I know nothing about design. This is our forever retirement home. I should have hired a designer. the good news is the shell lamp is on sale if I decide to get it.

do not do that, you have done a fine job. it has excellent bones. i suspect it was the price tag that drew you to darker couch? and rug? anyway. i do not think you need more that one lamp replaced. what do you think of disbursing the cabinets? actually what do the other walls look like, you have all the dark stuff in a cluster over there.

I don't think you have too much brown. Browns are neutral, you just need to add color and light.
Start simple and inexpensive.
I would keep the rug on the floor, add color by adding throw pillows to your sofas. Replace pics above sofa with one large mirror turned horizontally. Repaint your walls a much lighter neutral (SW Part Time). Different light bulbs in your lamps. A 2700k bulb will be brighter.

I do like the pillows and the rugs. I like that there is more color than what I have been using. I just need to look at the a few times to imagine them in my room. really liked the first pillow that had multi colors in it.

just can't really repeat pillows that have exactly those every time. but every pillow has one or more of those colors. i can do different sets if you like. pillows are all under $25. if they need fillers those are under $5 at amazon.

the only reason i am recommending a rug is because i do not see how any of those colors will add brightness to your room? i can match them but they will maintain the middle of the road no voom.

I would paint a lighter color than you have. And dark wood & any black (such as in your rug) absorbs light like crazy. I for one think that your current lamps are fine. And your furniture is fine. Perhaps lighted sconces by the cabinet??? What's the other angle of the room, looking towards the chair???
