Intermittent ceiling fan...fire potential???

Hi!

Ma daughter's room has a ceiling fan (no light). I turn it on at night for her or during her afternoon nap, but I often find it off (not rotating) with the switch still "on." I have also witnessed it randomly slow down. When I flip the switch on and off...sometimes it starts at the right speed and sometimes it lags. Could this be a problem with the capacitator? Could this cause a fire? What other issue could it be?

Does it have a remote?

My ceiling fan remote control is installed in the wall. It would turn off sometimes IIRC. I called the manufacturer and they suggested a neighbor may be emitting some signal that may be affecting the fan. I remember there was stereo equipment blasting at times, IDK, anyway, I changed the dip switch config a couple of times and it has been working for years now.

Any electric motor that is failing and continues to draw current does have the potential to overheat and cause a fire.

Get a new fan.
