Need help with my kitchen/entry/laundry area

Hi, I need to know what type of entry piece would be here to replace the brown. I want to get rid of my dark furniture. Plus I think that I have too much wood in the room. Also any ideas for less clutter in the kitchen and most importantly how to block the unsightly washer and dryer area on a budget until I get the kitchen remodeled. Ignore the flooring as that can't be done yet. Please help. Thank you!

    As far as counter clutter:
    1. Knives could go in a drawer organizer with cutting board that fits on top.
    2. Trash can could go in a cabinet using pull-out rack.
    3. Paper towel holder could be mounted under cabinet.
    4. Cookbooks could go in china cabinet.
    5. Find a place for toaster oven if you don't use everyday.

Found this great curtain at Pier One to hide laundry.

I like the contrast of the dark cabinet. What you might do is something to the panel inset like contact paper or paint or textured wallpaper and install silver starfish hardware for the beachy look you are going for.

Paint the backboard of the inside of your china cabinet a fresh color. Or wrap foamcore in fabric or wallpaper, quick and easy. The tray on your counter, if it's wood you could paint it or the chalkboard frame. Do you want to add another color that works with your art piece?

Maybe you need to tweek the small things that are the same color as your lovely hutch and dining set. Change out the small things to bring in some color. For example, your candle bases, placemats, the jug on your tray and the tray color. Add drapery panels. Maybe a colourful rug under the table, even an indoor outdoor rug that could be used outside or in the laundry area when you do your floor.

I love this!!!! The problem I have with the kitchen is there isn't enough storage at all. We use the toaster oven almost daily for the kids. I will move the cookbooks. The knives could go into a drawer - if I can squeeze it in. The paper towel under the sink is great too. My trash is an issue for sure. I don't have a way of doing a pull out cabinet until I do the kitchen remodel but that's what I wanted to do. Going to pier one this morning actually and I like that curtain.
I also like the idea of bringing in different colors. What colors do you think work best? I'm getting rid of the entry piece and will either leave that wall blank or put something functional there.

My husband removed both doors from below my kitchen sink and changed them from doors to pullouts using the same fronts. Is your hubby or dad or father-in-law handy and always at Home Depot?!

I recently went through my cupboards & sideboard/buffet. Donated, garbage tossed or recycled and moved items used seldom to the basement or laundry room to free up more room. It's worth doing.

What colors do you have in the next room to coordinate with? You could change your entry door color too or do you like the black? Paint your island a soft green for a color boost?
