Entry Lighting Help...

I think it's 8'. Then we have a stairway. I don't want any glass...too hard to clean...I have schoolhouse ceiling fixture in upstairs hall but want prettier in entry. Also good lighting would be nice. Anyway. Here's pics. We are getting house painted this week [SW Accessible Beige].

If you have décor tips too I'll take them. Thanks.

I wonder if you could remove the glass and paint the one you have black or ORB. I'd also consider putting a mirror over your console table.

good idea. worth a try. thanks. re: mirror....wouldn't it be odd for people to walk in and look at themselves? or no? thanks.

any other ideas please? i'd appreciate help. thanks.

I think you need a larger light fixture, one with more width. Your home feels country, so I'd look at traditional lighting. I like the wrought iron fixture torrey posted, but you're probably ready for a different shape.

I would add drapes to your DR window as that's in your entry view and it would help soften the window and brick.

Mirrors are typical in entry ways to make sure you're all put together before you go out into the world. Like the other night, I had put a hair clip in to hold my bangs back, forgot about it, and went out for dinner. Got home and found an oddly placed hair clip still there. Thanks, DH, for telling me! Shoulda checked a mirror first.

Don't use a wooden frame. Your entry has a lot of wood already.

I don't know what budget, but what something like these several sizes and mounts I think they fit the style. Laila cage styles

I have the one torreykm posted- reasonably priced & love that there's no glass!! Quick swoop in with the swifter for spider webs. I'm going to change the sleeves- I dislike the plastic ones.

Decorating- yes, mirror to reflect the light from the inside. The hangings you have now are too small & too high. You might could add over the bench- can't tell if that is hooks over bench or not? Remove small photos-- just 1 or 2, add basket for keys & misc stuff that comes in, a live plant since you get good light with door open. A rug that has less pattern-- the brick floors- which I love- have the pattern. You could get indoor/outdoor or subtle one from dash & Albert. New cushion on bench. Also, if you leave your front door open a lot, maybe a new paint color on door that is earthy to coordinate with the interior as well. Drapes in dining room.

All little updates with not a lot invested to make the area more cohesive.

    DVI Castille in black

I went through this search with same criteria and there are quite a few options. Usually the ones I liked were ORB or black. If you give me criteria I can find more. I am very familiar with lighting options.

thanks for great tips. i tok the glass out for now. duh. that would have been wonderful for all these years of dusty glass. lol. but they don't look right.

I like the round orbs. I was thinking of it. but what do i do in the stairway? another round one?

dining room....I do have sheer drapes in dining room. they were removed for painter. i had a valance also but i think it's dated looking. i'm trying to 'modernize'....ish ... moving away from country. so are just sheers ok? should I do 2 panels per side? I need the privacy. everyone walks by and stares right in while we eat dinner...

Whole inside was just painted Sherwin Williams accessible beige [dovetail in bath and bonus room]. it's more grey than beige on my walls. taking some getting used to but growing on me.

we are in the trees so it really brightens up the house. like i said i'm trying to go away from country. think rustic chic? lol.

rug in entry way.... I could never find one that 'worked'...ideas? should I recover bench in solid?

mirror...feng shui says it is a no no facing a door which is where that table is. so I could put the mirror by the bench but that seems odd. we don't really come in and out this way [usually go through garage] so no need for basket...unless just for looks....love the ideas. i'm getting rid of the welcome sign and going to put something with more hooks with maybe the 3 pictures over it [bible verse] ?

    thanks so much.

Many lighting lines have different sizes and/or types that would give you options for both areas.

you could add panels in addition to the sheers. Or do a blind and panels.. We have these soft vertical blinds from Hunter Douglas. The folds are material rather than the hard strips that are alone or in between . Like sheers but with the option for privacy. We really like them!

    SOFT VERTICAL BLIND

Cadence Soft Vertical Blinds feature gentle curved vanes that mimic the appearance of soft drapery folds. Available in eight styles and more than 40 fabric, material, and color combinations, Cadence blinds offer superior sound absorption and translucency.

Sheers: give enough privacy as long as they are covering the window [closed and not open].

issue with lighting...I think it needs to be smaller because of clearance...see pic.

also here's shots of accessible beige in our lighting...

We had the clearance issue too - both with the door and height. Many of the pendants will work if not too big. Usually you need at least 1 link. Some have a semi- flush option too. We went with the DVI Castille in brushed nickel. DH's requirements were no glass and easy to change bulbs. We love the new light! It made a huge difference.

Should I do something like this

or more of a Sisal like this

and assuming rectangles not squares based on my area. Thanks.
