Help anyone?

The entry light is pretty cool looking, although it will match and blend right in with your front door. The dining room light looks really undersized for your room and ceiling height. Showing us some more pics of the house and your style might possibly generate more responses. : ))

Is the fact that the entry light blends in with the front door a bad thing? Also I realized that although the current entry light matches the dining room light it's on a smaller scale. the new entry light I'm looking at is larger than whats there now. To Forsythe Home Styling: Yes, I'm definitely trying to get rid of the amber but was thinking of going with more of a lower chandelier type. The chandelier that I was looking at is a three light They do have one that's a 6 light but I was afraid it would be too large. I'll post some pics of the rest of the room although we've ordered a large sectional to replace the sofa and 2 green chairs to give it a more casual look. The walls, as shown in the Christmas pic, are now painted a warm taupe grey tone that enhances the fireplace. The ceiling height in the entry is about 9 1/2 ft and the great room is 14 ft with the area in the dining room slightly lower. Lots of windows.

Your home looks lovely - nice work! For the entry - you could hang a fixture so that it is no lower than the bottom of the transom. Send me the dimensions of your entry and I can guide you as too what size fixture you should get.

I honestly like both of your choices very much -- they manage to tip a hat to the Craftsman style while being clear updates as well. They aren't an exact match, but close enough to be fine in adjacent spaces.

Be sure that you hang your new dining room chandelier a bit lower than the old one, which was a little too high.

I have a slightly different take for you to consider. Lovely home and your front entry is great! I took note of your comments on the new direction with furniture and while am "nodding" to the mission style and leaded glass, I am moving you in an "updated" look direction. I have chosen a open fixture for your entry and dining room. First, both fixtures need to be lower. The front fixture can drop down to about the bottom of the transom. If that ceiling is 9.5 ft. then you can come down at least 20" I believe. Some of this is "eyeballing" when the fixture is hung.

This fixture has straight lines but a more modern shape. You will get some "glow" from the Edison bulb. This is for the entry. This one is larger and I believe is a better "scale" for your dining room. It looks like your ceiling is angled perhaps? But certainly higher as you mention. So you need something quite a bit bigger than the current piece. Your furnishings also appear pretty beefy so you need more scale to keep that consistent. This fixture plays well with the entry without being matchy-matchy, and has that little more modern edge while still having the straight dark metal lines. This fixture should hang approximately 32-34" above your table top. I think this combination would update your look a bit while still being very casual and comfortable. Enjoy! My main advice, move away from the colored glass because it is going to affect lighting and ambiance in your room and mess with your new color schemes. That is why I chose the more "open" looking lighting.

You can put frosted bulbs in these fixtures too if you want more light control, or have dimmers on your switches.

My entry is 5 ft to the molding that frames the entry way in to the great room and is 7 ft wide. The hall in between goes in opposite directions to the bedrooms and baths, laundry room and garage.

Flo, Thank you for your ideas. the cage lighting is a concept I hadn't thought of nor would that have caught my eye. I usually don't like to see the bulbs on fixtures but with a dimmer and frosted lights it may be fine. Very unique and 1 that I'll consider.

Here is the before and after pic of the new dining room fixture. I did go a little smaller than suggested because it seemed to be big enough for the scale of the space. I really do love the look. Another question. Do I need anything for the windows?

There are no window coverings anywhere in the house, even the bedroom all wall windows. We live in the country and no one uses window coverings. Does it need anything...a valance? I'm changing my decor to a more clutter free look.

Very nice. I like the clean look, as long as you have enough light control, sun control and privacy no drapery works for me!

Can the fixture be turned to be aligned with shape of table?

We tried to align it when we first hung it. The little bugger seems to have a mind of its own lol. We'll try again. Thanks! By the way I found a cage light 12 x 22 that I'm thinking about for the entry. It doesn't match but I think complements the dining room fixture. As I recall in your email, you thought a 12 inch would be good for the space. I will find the link and show you in another comment.
