New living room!

We've recently moved and are having. A blast as new home owners. We've hit a snag in our living space however! No matter how many rugs we look at we just can't seem to commit to a certain one! I want the space to have a "vintage modern" vibe but I also want to keep the colors fairly neutral so I can change the colors with the seasons. Any suggestions for what area rug would look good In Our space, and any side suggestions on wall decor would also be appreciated!

Oooo fun! I see doggie approves of the view. Is this too bland? I am assuming you want to keep your options open for accessory colors.

you might also consider leaving it as it is. I have no rug in my living room because I just love the wood floor, and cat hair stresses me out.

I do want to keep my color options open, but I feel like I'm struggling with finding the room too bland and deciding how to brighten it up. I have a couple pops of turquoise in the throw pillows, but that's really it. The wall hangings will add a bit of color but really, not much.
As much as we love the hardwood floor we need a rug to protect it from doggy nails.

Get the right size rug for the space. Can't tell how you're entering the space, but maybe the chair should be closer to the sliding door for access.

Love what you have done with the place! Cute house.

Definitely look at a navy rug... It will be a wonderful neutral in your space, Navy goes so great with the lovely natural wood and the grays and with the turquoise accents it is fab...Also your dog will love it.

Get one with a trellis pattern to help tie the sharp angles of the room and furniture together.

Thanks everyone very much! I do like some of the colorful rugs and was leaning towards one, but my husband absolutely could not picture it in the room and thought I was crazy! Happy to be validated! And I actually unexpectedly like the navy as well. I didn't think that I would want a navy colored rug because it would darken the space even more but I can totally see how it would be a neutral since I can picture both bright, colorful accessories around it as well as reds and oranges for fall/Christmas. I can totally see how two rugs and two sets of accessories makes sense but budget only allows for one atm, though I will totally keep that in mind for next year.

Also thanks for the size example! That's another struggle I've been having!

mika, i know money is a consideration, but if you go to your local flooring store, they sell bound carpeting for very little. often room size for $50. you can get a heavy winter carpet for the fall winter season. not right this minute, but you would be surprised how easy. although, most designs will easily accommodate some form of xmas decs.

Thanks so much for the tip! All the area rugs that I have been looking at, in the size I need are running around $500 or more! I'm excited to see what I can find at a carpet store.

mika, what size do you need, the room does not look that big? I can look for less expensive. the rugs i pick generally run $300 or less for 5x8, but i can get much larger for that too. just give a little more guidance on what you like.

First of all, beautiful little living room. Secondly, I'm a firm believer in adding a few plants indoors. I have a dwarf avocado tree and I absolutely love it. Get compliments all the time too. You can choose from a ton of different dwarf trees and other cool plants online. I did need a grow light for mine though. I went with this one www.soltechsolutionsllc.com/aspect/

How about a sea grass rug. That would give you the neutral vintage vibe and would add texture.
