August 2016 Quilting/Sewing Goals

Here we go again.........count down to Labor Day.....has school started in your area yet? The high schooler of one of my friends in Indiana started today. WOW.....however, there are 3 2-week recesses/vacation times. Still kind of crazy to me.

I do have goals for items from the sewing machine this month: 1. Complete quilting on a quilt for a friend. 2. Complete a quilt top using a Frozen panel (it's needed by October). I think that'll do it for the goals as I finally have all the fabric (I think) for the quilt, have an idea of how I might put it together but need to wash the fabric yet.

Are things slowing down for y'all yet?

I have a baby quilt that needs to be sandwiched and quilted but at least the top is done. I'm also in the midst of making a Fall (24") wall quilt or table topper - can't decide - top done with the rest to do. I love Fall so I'm focused on doing a variety of things to use through Thanksgiving. I have some things I'm preparing to start on for the Christmas season but we'll see how things go. I have all the materials - just need to put ME in gear. One thing is for sure - as long as it's hot outside - I'm staying inside.

I have the top with rail fence blocks finished but I need backing. This Week I hope.

Looking through my bins and I Seem to have a few largish pieces of poly/cotton, so I am thinking some place mats are waiting to be made. We'll see.

I still haven't finished hand quilting my applique wall hanging, so it's now an August goal. And quilting the group quilt that I pieced a couple of months ago.

I got fabrics for a baby quilt for the girl that cuts my hair. Hopefully I can get it finished this month! The other goal will be to get another UFO sandwiched and quilted. That's it! I haven't been sewing much, so that will be good!!!

Wow, it is almost September! How are you all doing on your goals?

I still haven't finished either of the quilts on my list. I'm going to try to get them done by the end of the month, but I just really have been in a funk. I'm having trouble getting motivated to do anything, sewing or otherwise.

I still don't have the backing I need, but I have made 6 sets of placemats with another one partially done. Too hot to do much else.

Sorry for abandoning this post........I watched a lot of the Olympics. Both of my goals were met and the quilt was sent and received. Now I need to get the Frozen panel quilt backed and quilted. Deadline is it's supposed to be in her hands by Oct 1 so I guess I better get on the ball. I made a couple of 24 X 36 quilt tops that I'll offer her for the girls' dolls, too. Do little girls even play with dolls anymore? I've also been playing around with a variation of the 100 patch quilt from Wedding Dress Blue. And, I'm gearing up to make some string blocks......can't decide what color to use as the center string. I'm not complaining but it's been so hot.......heat index was 119 one day.....cannot breathe if outside for very long and it just drains a person of any energy. Donna, that's probably one of the things that's affecting you. It'll get better...

I had three goals for August, and I'm happy to report I achieved them all. The baby quilt for our new great-grandson is finished (except for the label), Linda has the August lotto block and my Antique Star quilt is going to the longarmer tomorrow. Yay!! I've chosen fabrics for the September and October lotto blocks. Now I have to get moving on one of the other quilts I have cut out - maybe my One-Block Wonder. We'll see.

Almost September!! My August goals were tiny, but managed to do them. There are several table runners done, all in fall fabrics. Two were left with my family in Vermont when I was there last week and I still have two long ones, and a small Halloween one ready to give away. And mailed the August lotto blocks just yesterday. ibquiltin4fun (ok, something like that!) gave me an idea for a quilt that I need/want to make for my daughter in law. I went to the store to look at the panel suggested and came home with what I think is the perfect panel and pattern to make her a 'sunrise on the beach' memory quilt. The pattern is called 'Windows on the East'...couldn't be more appropriate! and the scene is palm fronds with a sunrise in the background. ....sometime between now and Christmas??
