Re-upholstering Mission & Moving South

Love our mission-style cherry living/diningroom but need to ready it for Florida living - lighter color (currently forest green leather) - Florida house w/ honey oak hardwood floors- walls Ben Moore Pernod -open floor plan includes kitchen w/ white cabinets-sunburst shutters - nature artwork all around. What to do w/ reupholstery color/texture?

Appreciate any thoughts-thanks

Do this after you move not before. Live in your home a bit and decide if this is even the furniture you want to continue using. Living is different down here and not very formal. Dark cherry will look very foreign down here.

Yes, that is already a concern but are not ready/willing to get rid of it.

There are many more re-upholstery pros where we currently are than where we will be down south.

We also love our "art" so will try to use that as well. I think w/ careful choices we can possibly make it work w/ lighter neutral background color/texture (white, muted pale yellow or green) and a lively accent color or two......but we are not the "pros"...thanks

I would also urge you to re-think the mission furniture. I have seen so many people move this type of furniture only to realize it does not suit Florida living.

I agree with the posts above. I have lived in the area (Sanibel Island), I think you need to gear up for beachy cottage furniture... you will not get anything for Mission style down there.... even if it is Stickley, if not, -$. Look on this site for coastal decor... it may inspire you. Pictures of the new house would be helpful here.

I guess all you have to lose is the shipping cost involved. I would wait to upholster the seats once you are in Florida and maybe you could even do yourself. There are endless possibilities as to the fabric choices...think about how you will be accessorizing/decorating. Are you sure you don't want something different for your new lifestyle..relaxed and airy - 1st picture vs 2nd picture or you could paint your chairs perhaps.

BM Pernod is a yellow that will go well with many greens and blues. http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/pernod

Try taking a foamcore board with the Pernod sample on it to your upholsterers to flip through their samples. Take some photos of the artwork with you. The cost for upholstering a simple dining chair seat will be minimal unless a boxed cushion with cording is involve or the seat isn't rectangular.

Thanks- funny we just came back from upholsterer. We had sent her our wall art prior so she could pull some samples ahead of our appointment - also brought the pernod card sample from the paint store - found a nice fine neutral solid called 'sand' - a combo of blended gold/grey/brown w/ a little texture & just a little twinkley sheen - it looks really good w/ all our colors (the cherry furniture, the honey oak floor, the paint and the wall art) and brightens up the look for Fla. We are still sleeping on it as our current house is about to be staged for listing shortly. Think this is perhaps the right thing for us to try - any livelier color we choose for accent will look good w/ it. Thanks for your suggestions!
