The granite is a strong statement already, and if you "pick up" colors from the granite into the backsplash it will give the countertop even more dominance. If you use stainless steel tiles, it may draw attention to the dishwasher...oops. It's all highly subjective, of course, but I'd tie the tile color in with the cabinetry to make the backsplash/cabinetry read as a one, rather than the countertop/backsplash reading as one. Maybe go with a reddish brown backsplash such as this photo (for color, not necessarily the motif):

Granted, that much brown could be considered "too dark"...but it could also be considered "rich"...like I said, it's subjective. Just putting it out there for brainstorming...
