You are right. The color is off. I suggest you paint them with SW 7076 Cyberspace (nearly black) for a real pop. If it is in your budget, also change to 6 panel doors.

Unless you are stripping the mid century modern out of the house keep the slab doors and if they are in reasonably good shape don't paint them. It's more MCM to paint trim the wall color as well. I am painting my MC cottage style house with original luan slab doors right now and It is surprisingly rich looking painting the interior doors and trim in satin in the same color as the walls. I had painted the luan with faux panels way back when the house was cottage style. Looked fine then but not so nice with MCM.

Kathy, I don't mind the slab doors especially since they are solid core and help with the sound but paint the trim and doors the African Grey? Do you have a picture of what something like that would look like? It's interesting but I can't envision it.

My recommendation is to keep the trim white for contrast and paint the doors charcoal. You can use the Peppercorn on the doors if you are worried and want a slightly lighter charcoal that still gives contest to the African Grey. But I can assure you the Cyberspace will not disrupt the flow. It just a bit darker than the Peppercorn.

I don't want to break up my walls with blocks of contrasting color. Think of your wall as a cubist painting, draw the wall out in paint and look how things change if it's all the same color versus blocks versus blocks lined in trim color. My walls look better with doors blending in, look at your wall and see which your prefer. You may want some doors painted the wall color and some painted a contrasting color.

The example Beverly posted is of a substantial wall with substantial doors, not a single door on a small wall like yours.

Here is my feeble attempt at illustrating what I'm getting at. Assuming 4' wall with 30" door.

I did mine in a dark gray i love them but i changed the doors to master carre glass with the dark gray frames it makes the hallway seem so much brighter

Christine, You hit the nail right on the head. Cyberspace is perfect. Painted the Master in the Peppercorn and will post pictures of the Cyberspace against it. Thanks so much for the suggestion. Care to suggest a deep jewel tone blue??

I have not installed the new baseboards and have not painted the trim the bright white.

Christine, Since I decided tho paint the master the Peppercorn I thought I would path the guest room in a bolder color. I have a queen bed with a black leather tufted head board and a tall walnut dresser so far. I do have two six foot leaner mirrors (mirrored frame) that I was thinking about hanging behind the end tables to reflect more light into the room. I thinking about SW Blueblood for the room with the Cyberspace not he door and closet doors and bright white casing and crown. Thoughts?

Hi Daren. I don't see a jewel tone blue working with the charcoal doors. You need a rich color that compliments the undertones. First, I suggest you paint the dresser black. (SW 6258 Tricorn black) to go with the headboard. All wood in the room should be black. Second, your idea about the mirrors behind the nightstands is excellent. Your bedside lamps should be about 30" tall with white drum shades and a silver or mercury glass base. Your bedding should be black and white. Teals work better with the gray tones, so have a look at SW 6495 Great Falls for the walls. Since you have crown molding and trim in white, I suggest you paint the ceiling with SW 7071 Gray Screen to tie the color plan together with the rest of the house and show off the crown molding. It will raise your perception of ceiling height, as otherwise it will be perceived that the ceiling starts at the bottom of the white, which is actually the bottom of the crown molding. Let me know what you think.

Another wall color that would work is SW 9140 Blustery Sky - a gray-teal.

Christine, This is almost erie. Three walls in our living room are the African Grey and one is Lakeshore which is one shade lighter than Great Falls. The African Grey and the Lakeshore look great together so I'm all in with the idea of Great Falls and will tackle the guest room this weekend. Also love the Grey Screen idea as it is the color I used as the ceiling color in our music room/den in our old house.

Hi! Can anyone suggest interior paint color other then white to compliment our house. One room is painted SW decor white, other one snowbound with African grey as accent wall while floor is "pecan" color oak.I would like all doors to be the same, just have no idea what color to paint. Thank you!
