Nothing wrong with leaving it alone while you save money for the gut renovation. It's fine as is for now. One you start planning the renovation, the future cabinets and counters will factor into your color choices then.

Have you just moved in or have you been there a while? I suggest making an ideabook of kitchens whose countertops are a similar color (turn on overhead lights and retake photos to show colors better, include a piece of white paper). Any favorite artwork?
