Planters in the same brick would look nice.

Can you enlarge your current windows (extend them down lower)? This would also facilitate egress in an emergency.

I wouldn't do a red door since I think it would clash with your salmon brick color. Paint a light blue gray to tie in your current roof color.

Add some window boxes. Use some flowers and lots of greenery/trailing plants. These can be changed seasonally.

Choose a garage door that echoes the windows on the house. If you don't have a separate garage window, a new garage door with windows will add light to your garage.

If keeping the current windows on the house, I would choose a long recessed panel garage door with plain rectangular windows (a model with less panels than what you currently have).

Great suggestions! Thanks so much. I'm hoping to install sprinklers at some point too so we can get nice grass next spring. I'm in Denver so no sense in planting grass right before winter.

Remove the shutters. They do not suit this style of house.

Remove the shutters and the overgrown plants. Widen the walk and install planters in wood or brick or concrete. Except for a specimen plant or two, keep the plantings low. Wood garage and front door.

You could stagger the planters in front of the house, leaving some space between the planters and the main part of the house for a paver or graveled seating area. Nice bench between the two windows would look nice. It is nice to have a place to sit outdoors while you change your shoes for running or gardening.

here are a few ideas : 1. get rid of the plants next to garage 2. fill in this area with concrete, pavers, bricks, or rocks. 3. add a backless bench and some planters next to and in front of it. 4. add a couple of different sized solar candle lanterns on the bench surrounded by seasonal decor 5. add some curvy planting beds in front of the house and next to the walk and even to the driveway and into the yard... too many straight lines now. 6. plant a roof high ornamental tree at the corner and some small ornamental trees under the windows, then fill in with shrubs, hostas, lirope, ornamental grasses etc....work with a landscaper and add some boulders too
7. if you bring the bed into the front yard or even if you don't add a large tree to the front yard... something with a lot of interest and character 8. I like the idea of a wooden garage door or at least paint it to go with your color of brick....white makes it stand out 8. coordinate your door with the bench and planters...I can't really tell what color your brick and roof are, but maybe get some professional advice on that as well.
