Transforming a Brick Fireplace to Stone

There have been many discussions about what to do with a painted brick fireplace and I wanted to show how with a little paint, some electric work and some beautiful stone veneer, you can transform a dated fireplace from the 70"s to an up to date fireplace.
The picture of the painted brick s very typical in the Chicagoland market. The customer removed the existing beams, added some canned lights and painted the walls. Our stone was applied directly to the brick after a wire mesh and skim coat of mortar was first applied to the painted brick. The style of stone is our dry stack ledge stone in a custom earth tone color. The stone was installed without a mortar joint. We also used a custom made Alder wood Fairfield mantel.
To create a more modern look we removed the doors and the customer will be replacing the doors with a free standing grate. The limestone hearth was also replaced with coordinating hearthstones. If you have questions about adding stone to your fireplace, please ask.
