Help with gigantic mirror!!

We inherited this very ornate and very gigantic mirror with our house. The scale works well in the space, but the mirror doesn't match our style. I was wondering if a coat of paint would help?

Getting a new light fixture is on the list too- so thoughts are also appreciated there!

The mirror seems to go well with your wood tones. I would keep it "as is". It's a very nice foil for your style.

I am not so sure it works there. Do you have a wall, perhaps in your bedroom, where you could lean it and use it that way? Or at the end of a dark hall to help bounce some light around. A piece of artwork would be much more attractive where the mirror is now.

I think painting the frame black and distressing it would look fabulous

Would it fit in the alcove? It would be less prominent there. Even if you have to remove the buffet/chest

After done painting it, you can hang it on the wall above the credenza, if it fits. How about a glass chandelier in place of the fixture above dining room?

The blues and browns go very well together. You can bring some black and grey in the mix. Black iron and glass chandelier and the mirror with the black frame will give a nice touch to the space...just a couple of suggestions. The room is beautiful anyway!!!

I love it as is! Now you just need a gorgeous chandelier to reflect in it! Was just shopping at Zgallery and saw both of these fixtures on display...they are gorgeous! They have a very shiny chrome finish and just sparkle!!!

That mirror is perfect where it is, scale and location. I don't think paint will change the style any. If it's too ornate for you it will be too ornate in any color. If you really dislike it, replace with one you love in that size.

The second suggested chandelier would be perfect! It is in keeping with your other furniture and modern accessories. The mirror is good where it is.

I suspect that the frame has been painted once already. Pretty flat looking brown. You can mix ornate with contemporary easily. I would try to make the mirror look better and maybe brush on some very thinned black paint and wipe the high points. That will leave black paint in the crevices and might help the appearance.

Or you could sell it.

I would put it above a vanity, either in a bathroom or dressing room. I think it is lovely, just needs a different spot to shine:) It's just not the right scale for where it is currently.

Sell the mirror, you are never going to love it or see if it can be re-framed in a style you do love.
