Yes sweet cats and dogs, I have a zoo @Flo Mangan! I moved the swivels back to the sides of the console at an angle and will bring the down the marble top coffee table.

Also, the console table is a mix of blues and the chairs are a chocolate brown, not as dark as the pics are making them seem. The base of the marble table is wood, a medium brown stain? Not really loving the idea of black pillows.

I'll get the boys to switch tables...will post pic shortly!

Okay, got the boys to swap out tables. I know that this is probably a normal size table 40x18 it's so cute, almost looks like doll furniture! Lol! But is is Heavy!!!! I've been living with my very dominate live edge table so long!!!

I like the idea of the c table, however I really have to use one of the coffee tables in this room-I have no where else to put them other than swapping rooms.

Looking around for anything black and white to get an idea of that for a pillow, but it is proving difficult...ill keep looking!

I know my current rug doesn't cut it...but I don't want to take it out until I get a new one-it seems so bare without a rug.

In this configuration, what goes on the big blank wall behind the couch now?

You could stack the items you have on back wall. Center them on remaining wall, and stack them up for one possibility. Need some sculptural item on high chest too. Might need to move the two behind the lamps on the console, since they are being blocked and figure out a combination of those and the 3 already on the wall in a new configuration. A couple new pillows on the sofa and something simple and green on the coffee table, and a very nice cozy spot.

For back wall, put the one currently on the back wall above the tall cabinet on side. Then take the two that are behind the lamps on the console right now and the two carved ones and set them up in a long line about 63" mid artwork along that wall. My screen read "black" so instead of where I said black, think maybe navy blue and cream. Just something like that to tie in the colors of the console, which is gorgeous by the way, and the cream and white. I really like this now, how about you? I also sketched a "sailboat" of some kind up on that high cabinet. Shop in your house and see what might fit your theme in your house and see if it works up there. Let me post some more pillows to give you the idea.

Something like this that blends your colors and would tie things together. Then on the coffee table, something the dogs and cats won't eat! Maybe a little pot of succulents that bring some natural greens into your set up. The clear bottles on top of the tall cabinet disappear, so you need some color or solids up there for balance. I don't know the size of the pictures behind the lamps on the console, so you will have to lay those 4 items up and just center them up and make a straight line. Keep them hung close together. No more than 2" apart. That will give your eye something to go to on that wall, without taking up space.

A rectangular tray, perhaps wood, on the white marble would help bring that piece into the "color palette" too. Something simple and perhaps kind of carved, but rectangular to mimic the shape of the table. Very nice! Good work!

With something "chunky" on that coffee table, it will work. Just kind of different than the large wood piece, which is gorgeous, but big! Do you understand my little sketch for the wall hangings. Basically, you leave the big on behind the console and the lamps. Great! Then, the picture of I think a bi-plane? on the long wall, gets moved to the wall over the tall cabinet. Then you are left with 4 pieces. The two carved pieces and the two you removed from behind the lamps. The two carved pieces and those two for a line. Whichever of the two types are larger, but them in the middle of the line. I think that would look best. Then the smaller ones on the ends. Since that table is marble, for sure protect it from rings from wine, etc. Make sure coasters are available, perhaps on a tray and that the items placed on it have "felt pads" to prevent scratching. I'm sure you know this, but I'm compelled! Thank the "boys" for me!

There's a really good article called "An Insiders Guide to a Good Gallery Wall" or something similar on Houzz at the minute. If you look at that I think you'll get some great inspiration for the wall behind the sofa. I'm sure you have lots of nice photos hanging around the house- or on the computer that you could print out- along with other smaller items that tend to clutter up a place but can look great as part of a gallery wall- wooden trays or slim crates, signs, pictures the kids have drawn etc. these can all put assembled into something that really represents your family and brings warmth to the room. You may well find that once you've done this, several colours will pop out from the wall display and you can use that to guide your choice of rug and cushions. The shelf idea is generally a good one, however in a narrow walkway I think it might not be best there. Surely can work in other settings.

Yes I love your sketch! I looked around the house for some thing sculptural, but everything I have seems to blend in or is too tall! I attempted with a few pieces, I'll have to look around for something more similar to your "sailboat" idea to place in front of the bi-plane.

I also agree with maybe navy blue and cream to tie all the pieces together. I love my console...It was one of those pieces that I didn't know I "needed" until I saw it and had to have it!

At our last home I had some succulents and I really think that's a great idea-for two reasons...maybe I can keep them alive and the cats won't eat them :-). I'm always amazed that I kept the kids watered and fed because I have the hardest time with herbs, plants and gardens!

I do not have a wood or rectangle carved item for the coffee table... I'll keep looking throughout the house to see if I can find one!

Thank you @CathyLeeper for the suggestion of a gallery wall and shelves! I'll have to look up that article for a gallery wall and get some inspiration. Love the idea of the shelves for ease of changing things out. I'm not sure if I can use that idea on this wall though...I've got about 3 feet of walkway behind couch and the wall. I may take that idea upstairs to the rumpus room!

I like the wire airplane. When you get the picture hung, I would turn it and move to right side. That is all that is needed there. So happy we are working together to give you super, new, cozy space. I have these that I received from our parents from the mid 80's when both of our parents were stationed in England. My husband and I were only in elementary, but our parents went out a lot...pub hopping!
I found this little wood box thing, just for a visual to get an idea. Oh, I also placed the only thing green and barely alive in my house!

Not too sure about the frames...they don't seem large enough or maybe too busy? Here are the 4 set up below.
I grabbed this piece from my daughters room, it's 30x40. I am thinking something like this size? Thoughts on frames (2 or 4) vs an art piece this size.

Hi! Let's see. I think the large piece is nice, but I don't think it fits with the style of the rest of the space. I still think the line of the two balloons and two carvings would be most complimentary of the whole space. Glad the team is happy! It sure feels good from here. Can you get a shot from kitchen of wall console is on. I'd like to see it to get feeling of balance with the long wall.

They need to be hung a bit lower. And visually, center not on the whole wall, but the portion you view from standing down the hall and looking toward that wall.

Thanks Flo Mangan, really starting to look like a whole new room indeed!! I placed the two balloon pics on some existing nails just for height reference-the center of the art is at 63". I don't have enough nails up to place all 4 prices, but placed on the ground-and moved the center over as you suggested ( not center of wall).
How much lower should the center of the art be?

OK, I think I would put the two carvings on the inside and the pictures on the outside. I would lower about 1-1/2" only. That is going to look awesome! Could you shoot a pic of the carved pieces on the inside and the balloons on the outside. then you would hang the balloons centered on the carved pieces. I marked up previous sketch to show what I mean.

Here is a pic of the console wall from kitchen and other directions. Please don't mind the tchotchkes on the console, I pulled those out last night while looking for some sort of sculptural piece.

It looks great! Only tweak, remove all but 3 items on each side near the lamp that have darker color so they show up. Less is more! But this is so much more welcoming and I think you will have many great hours in this space. It will be interesting to see if your family migrates into this space more. I would be interested in that.

I don't like the layout. Try it with the carvings on outside please. I think because they are so dense they don't quite work. Might need to put them over tall cabinet and do this airplane in middle and balloons either side. We like things in odd numbers usually.

Yes, the pic over the console is hung and the center of pic is 63" and 5" over console.
I am not really loving the wood carvings either. I have a closet with some art etc that I'm going to go through tomorrow to see if I can find something to work with.
I really liked the size (only the size) of the art piece that I took out of my daughters room (30x40). That seemed to "fit". I'm not sure if I have something about that size in the closet, but we will see.

I want to come to your house! Great stuff everywhere. Smaller pieces on that wall would be better scale with the sofa in that location I believe. But, hey, always willing to try. Never know what "shopping in your own house" can turn up. The size of your daughter's piece would be ok, subject matter and colors are key. Looking forward to seeing your finds!

Have you tried the winter scene between the two carved pieces. I hate to drive you mad but just experimenting here! I think I like the balloons better on that long wall though, even just by themselves. I also like the bi-plane over the tall wood unit. I think the white in the winter scene kind of disappears?

There is a great place I like to go to look for art and accessories, maybe I'll go this weekend-it's two hours away! I'm not sure if any of these grams are working :-(

I like the tall back over the console. It fits in scale. I like the bi-plane over the big cabinet with the wire plane. On the long wall, I think I still like the two balloon pictures but close together. Maybe that is all that wall needs. You don't want to liter the walls up with "stuff" just 'cause you have it. We have some "editing" to do with the accessories. When you are out shopping look for a black or coppery looking small tray that is longer than your wood one and not as wide. Low edge too. Look for a small "fake" succulent plant in a nice pot, either black, dark brown or perhaps a celadon green. Look for a "coffee table" book that depicts a subject matter near and dear to your heart. Maybe antique planes, or "World Special Location" photos, whatever you love and make sure it isn't too large. We will be putting some items on it. Good luck and have fun. Take your wall measurements with you, and measurements of the balloon pictures. Maybe you will find another balloon that might work in the middle of the two you have. This is a process, so don't just buy something because you feel compelled to "finish". Never works. Only when something grabs you. Unless it doesn't fit. Or you are buying because it is on sale. If it doesn't work, it is not a bargain. OK, those are Flo's rules for shopping! lol Enjoy!

@Flo Mangan, I appreciate the golden rules of shopping! In our situation, moving every two years or so in the military, I tend to buy things that I like for "our someday home!" It is "always a bargain, and maybe it will work"..l will restrain myself! I hope.

No update @Flo Mangan! We ended up not driving to my favorite shopping location and instead hit up home goods, unfortunately I didn't find anything that caught my eye.
We have company all this week and next week so I will have to put this on hold for a bit.
But my guest have been sitting and enjoying the new setup! Thanks again, and hopefully soon I will have some new accessories.

Your rug should be 12 feet long, and 8 to 10 feet wide to anchor the room. You should also ask the owner about painting - especially as you would be going to a neutral colour.

Widen the porch and add a roof supported by round pillars. Add another porch lamp.

Go traditional: white siding, black (or deep grey) shutters, and a red door.
p.s. to earlier comment: use larger porch lamps.

Put a chandelier over the round table, and another pot in the centre. Don't forget lamps, as a room is mow comfortable when the ceiling is lit.

Sorry that I have been away!

I still have company @Flo Mangan, but after having guest in the house for a few weeks we've had to move to burl table back to this room. The burl table was not working in the family room! Causing me stress(company kids climbing on, guest placing feet on; trying to be respectful...placed a blanket under boxes of pizza and it kinda "steamed" the table). So other than placing burl table in garage-I have to make it work in this room.
Everyone agrees that the room configuration is more conducive for conversation since moving the furniture around and adding the smaller table, however I need to keep the "idea" the same but with the burl table.
My guest leave tomorrow!!
I took these pics earlier today to give you an update; I did place a couple of coffee books on the table and removed a bunch of stuff from the console.
It's been a crazy filled time! We are ready to have our house back and return to our normal routine.

Just came across this post and it's been fun watching the transformation. Good job! Wanted to say that I am happy the burl table is back. As a woodworker, it is beautiful and I know a bunch of woodworkers who would give their first born for that table LOL. It is amazing to watch Flo in action. Congratulations.

I just want to say how much I've enjoyed the help and comments that I've received! As military life goes...we are in the process of packing to move back to where we came from a year and a half ago!
