We just completed a major master bath remodel. The smaller changes that made a huge difference were...framed our mirrors with molding from Home D that we painted, new faucets and repainted the walls a light taupe. Should not exceed your budget.

$1,000 Budget, no problem, shop clearance and mark down bins at Home Depot, Home Goods, Target and local charity shops for new fixtures, vanity etc. Do you have a Habitat For Humanity store in your area? If you do pay them a visit, they have like-new vanities, fixtures and other home improvement items for sale (all donated by contractors and DIY home owners). Make or buy a new curtain to dress-up and hide your laundry area. Invest in some fun towels. Paint, tester pots of paint or Oops Paint (returned cans of paint that are the wrong color) costs a fraction of the price of a full gallon of name brand paint. Don't listen to nay-sayers that tell you that a remodel can't be done on your budget. YES, a DIY remodel CAN happen on budget you just have to know where to look for the items you need. Check out Freecycle.com in your area, people GIVE AWAY brand new vanities, light fixtures etc. all the time. Dumpster diving or curbside shopping is also a way to find old dressers, sinks etc. to repurpose for your condo bath.

I would forfeit use of the second sink in favor of more storage, and remove the pieces in the bathing area for a more spacious feel. Add doors to hide the laundry.

Why not use a Bamboo Floor Mat near the tub instead of a traditional black rug? Home stores sell them in varying sizes.

I would paint the walls grey and use black accents, and white trim for contrast. Buy complimentary grey floor mats and black/Royal blue or orange towels and take down hooks and add modern print with black/orange/blue if those are your accent colours. Remove clutter, hide trash put beside toilet and store everything else in drawers. Less is more.

WOW! Lots of suggestions this morning! I like some of those new shower curtains posted and those bamboo shelves are really cool too. So are the under sink ones, I bet hubby could build something along those lines. And we are going to frame out the mirrors. We really can't have anything decorative with a cord though. There are only 2 sets of outlets in the entire bathroom, one by the big vanity medicine cabinet and one by the little vanity. Cords would be trailing all over the floor if we tried to put anything anywhere else. I wish there was one closer to the tub, but there isn't (probably a code thing about outlets close to a water source or something). We actually already have a bamboo bath mat and we really like it, but we do have to put a towel under it when we're using it so we don't get excessive water on the flooring until we can replace with something more suitable for a bathroom. As much as I generally dislike the regular kind, it is probably a better solution to have them until we can replace the floor. Also thinking a "spa bench" may be more useful than the bamboo table? So we had somewhere to sit and could put some baskets on the bottom. Something along these lines but maybe a bit skinnier?:

Any idea where I could get the textured glass from the shower doors cut down? Frame shop maybe? I have a really good idea for how to upcycle some smaller pieces into art (they are too heavy and massive as-is), and if it doesn't work out, well it was going in the recycling bins anyways. Also, any idea of a nicer looking stainless container than the stainless water bottle on the little vanity? I make my own mouthwash, it has essential oils (which reacts with plastic and aluminum) and I've broken umpteen prettier glass bottles in the past, so stainless is really the only option to store it in. I don't mind hiding my makeup etc... in the drawers, but I'd like to keep my mouthwash out since a suitably sized container is too tall for the drawers and don't want to get into the cabinets every time I use it.

'Twere I, I would upgrade to a high quality, classy (and larger) sink and same goes for faucet, both with personality. What you have is definitely standard issue and cheapens the space. I would change the storage unit at the toilet to something NOT white and whatever the color you like, or if a wood finish, select a wallpaper which co-ordinates with the cabinet color/finish. Pick a color that makes you happy. A fresh, light to medium blue would be great -- as would lots of shades. Go with your preference. Color will help you create a sense of more space. People think that eye-watering white is just the ticket in small spaces. It's not. Coordinate towels with the wallpaper. Done!

The one thing I would do is replace the floor with a large warm gray rectangular tile placed in a pattern similar to brick laying. I would keep the tub, but if you wanted to hide it, you could replace the doors with a nice shower curtain with a curved rod.

I don't think you can cut the shower doors down. I think its a requirement that they are tempered glass in the bathroom. they will break into thousands of tiny pieces instead of shards that can cut you. tempered glass is usually marked in a corner and can Not be cut.

No problem! The only real problem is a complete lack of color in the room. Everything is muted and dull. Not sure what that thing is covering the left front of the tub? It almost looks like slats. I would build some kind of inexpensive cover for the front of the tub; Stick with the "slats" if you like because they match your basket type table and other baskets. Make sure you add a pretty "cloth", not plastic, tub "enclosure"; this will "hide" the tub you hate and it will add so much to the room. It will likely be the most expensive thing you do, unless you decide to replace the floor. That would likely cost more. I've attached a photo of one of my bathroom to show you the kind of curtains I mean; very colorful and elegant is what I was going for. You can"t see the tub curtains very well as it's on the left, but the curtains on the window are exactly the same only larger, and I have a muted green vinyl shower curtain behind them to keep the water where it belongs.

Obviously, you like the basket look so keep it. I don't see anything wrong with the floor and it too matches your "baskets" so I wouldn't change it unless you don't like it or it's worn somewhere. I can't tell from the photo. If you do change it make sure it has at least "some" of the accent color you choose. A "seaside" theme goes well with baskets. You could use some kind of "blue" for your accent color if you do the seaside theme. A cobblestone type vinyl would also look great with a seaside theme. Throw in some netting and seashells and wallah!! Just use paint and buy some colorful towels, possibly a new set of vanity things (soap dish, toothbrush holder, etc.), do something as I suggested above to cover the front of the tub, add a colorful, matching bath rug set, and "pretty up" the frame of your mirror to match the other things you do. Seashore netting might look good around the mirror. Remember; Color, color, color! You don't have any accent color at all; boring!!!! Pick a theme and then at least one, if not two, accent colors to go with the theme.

As for the grayness of the tub. Have you tried "Barkeep" cleanser? You will never go back to whatever you use. If it's a particularly difficult stain, make a paste from Barkeep and a little water and let it soak at least 15 minutes. Another amazing cleaner for the kinds of stains you say in a "ring around the toilet" or "tub" is a pumice stone. You can buy both at the grocery store.

I think you can easily redo this bathroom for under $1000 just by adding some color and a theme. The only major expense is the floor which I don't even know that you need. Good luck

I suggest removing the pegs for towel holders and all of the clutter. I'm not certain about removing the shower door and replacing it with a shower curtain because the shower door is on the edge of the tub. The re-glazing of the tub is not a long term solution, it never lasts, the fumes are noxious and it will always be seen as a quick solution that is a cheap solution.

Your bathroom is nice, I would not remove one of the sinks as someone has suggested. Two sinks are a great bonus. A thousand dollars is not a huge budget for a bathroom, but it is a sizable amount to put towards saving for a remodel.

I understand you have repeatedly said you don't want to remodel, however 5 years down the road you can save money & remodel the bathroom. A remodeled bathroom will help sell you condo more quickly. Shop around for a contractor, it doesn't have to be a $10,000 or $15,000 remodel. You will surprised how prices can vary amount contractors.

I would not spend money , no matter how inexpensive, for curtains to cover the washer & dryer. It's sort of like covering the fridge in the kitchen, we know it's there, why bother to cover it? Not to mention the dust that is likely to cover the curtain from the dryer, etc.

In my opinion, get rid of the clutter and buy fresh towels and it will look better.

Hi, I've read about what you are looking for and what is being said. Here's my slant. Remove shower doors and replace with clear glass, this will make the room feel much bigger. This can be done fairly inexpensive with a similar unit, or for a little more money with a more dramatic set of doors. I see you already are replacing the toilet storage unit with (hopefully) a shelf to match faucets. Chrome or satin? I also see that you are replacing the hooks and towel bar. Two towel bars side by side would be nice, keep them low enough so you can place a couple pictures above them. The pictures sticking with you're bamboo theme, although I would replace the small table with something narrower & longer, tying it in better with the above shelf. Do not replace the shower door with curtains, filling the holes left by the door trim and recoating the tub. This will most likely turn out badly and will cause depreciation when you try to resell. Last but not least, if you could find a way to cover the washer/dryer with a barn door style slider, this could be the game changer. You don't need to have it be a rustic barn door, use a door that matches you existing 6 panel. Good luck!

I want to repeat, do not coat the tub. It will be disappointing and cost you at resale time. Try eliminating as much clutter as possible without making life more difficult. Houzz sells towel hooks that are a suction cup style that are really inexpensive, attractive, and will work great inside your tub. Place them on the rear wall and your wash cloths will almost disappear. Or you can place them on the long wall of the tub, making sure that they match your towels hanging under the long shelf with the baskets. This way they become part of the decorating process. Go bold with burgundy accents and towels/washcloths or not so bold with a darker celery accent and towels/washcloths. The shelf above the toilet could also have a built in towel bar or bars, this will help tie the whole area together. I wouldn't frame the mirrors either. Unless you're really handy this could also turn out badly. I see the edge of the mirror is against the wall and the only way to frame it would be to adhere it to the mirror. The existing frame will hold the trim out, making it want to rock. Any mess behind the trim will also have an opportunity to show, after all this is a mirror. Good luck again!

1. eliminate the clutter- on the countertops, the stuff hanging on the walls, the little table by the wall, and replace the towels with nice white ones (for sales purposes). 2. either replace that mirror or frame it, it is really cheapening the look of your bathroom. 3. Paint, please repaint your bathroom it is the easiest way to make it look fresh and new again. 4. cover up your washer and dryer, but not with a curtain which will end up looking cheap, with something a bit more solid. The tub enclosure is something I and everyone I know absolutely hate, but I'm not sure how easy it would be to fix that, it just grosses most people out when they go look for a place to live.

If you have a friend who has a home you love, I would ask for suggestions from that person. Decorating by committee, as we are doing here, is seldom successful.

But, it's fun to give opinions so here are mine: You have good components to work with and just removing some of the visual clutter, such as the over-toilet cabinet, will help a lot. Select one style (modern spa, country, etc. and a color scheme based on a curtain or picture that you really love. Personally, I would find a shower curtain that I loved and hang it (doubled) on a tension rod over the washer/dryer and use that to define your style. To keep the room calming, stick with neutrals and naturals. I would remove everything from floor, counters, and walls that doesn't serve an important purpose and maybe find a neutral indoor/outdoor rug to hide the floor and help bring it all together. We are keeping as much as we can satin nickel (as that's what the light fixtures we won't be replacing are). I like the sliding barn door look, but there's no room on either side of the W/D for a door to slide. I'm thinking if I go about it the right way, I may be able to construct a pocket type door since standard one won't fit. I am pretty handy with that kind of project. Same with framing the mirrors, that is the kind of DIY project I am completely confident in doing. Will just take some time to think it out.

Can't say I really love anyone I know personally bathroom look and feel. We're under 30, so most of our friends don't own homes yet and don't bother with decorating. Our families do not have tastes that match ours and live on the other side of the country. That's why I'm online:-)

Take a look at Lowes shower door, Item # 123349 Model R706000-L-SH. It is priced right (on sale for $329.00 plus 5% off with a My Lowes Card) and it will give you the barn door look and make your bath look much larger. It will also not leave any holes to repair. The suction type hooks I mentioned earlier also work on glass. Of course you realize that fresh paint will make a huge difference. Those paint wheels really do come in handy when tying shades together. Go to Sherwin-Williams for great advise and their color visualizer. This will help tie towels and paint together, etc. You can also get advise and color wheels at Lowes.

From what you're saying, you seem to be fairly handy. That being the case, you should check out some of the new vinyl floor planks. They are great for a bath, somewhat inexpensive (especially since it's a small space) and a new floor would do wonders for the space.

My 2 cents is to prioritize what bugs you the most about your bathroom and work to fix it. The first thing we did was get rid of a shower door & put up a curtain. We had kids to bathe, & you can't do that easily while leaning around a door, plus they are a pain to clean. A shower curtain can be thrown in a washing machine or easily replaced. I'd spend the whole $1000 on getting rid of the shower door if it took it, but if the door doesn't bother you, don't spend your money there. The ideas on here for framing the mirror are pretty inspiring. Please don't get rid of a sink. I don't think the washer/dryer needs to be hidden, but IKEA panel curtains would probably work if you think otherwise.

I think you are getting a lot of decorating tips. You should spend your money on structural design type things. The shower doors are the most dated item & take up a large visual space. You can replace them with framless clear glass ones from a big box home improvement store. You can install them yourselves. The washer/dryer area should be out of view and putting a closet bi fold door can be installed by you. If the machine sticks out past the space (walls) making it not possible to put one on - you should fix the vent pipe - usually this is the reason - cut the drywall open to put a fitting inside the wall cavity so the machines can fit tight to the back wall. You just put the drywall piece back or buy a piece to replace it. No need to finish properly it will never be seen. You can paint it. The sink can be replaced to update it and a new faucet too. The floor you should tile and also put tile baseboard around including the vanity toe kick - and again it is an easy do it yourself project. Majority of cost is labour so any work you can do yourself makes your $1000 go farther. Ask family or friends for help or info. Watch online videos of how to do things. Without fixing the actual dated items I do not think you will feel like it is a fresh new space.

I haven't read all the suggestions but from what I have, I am shocked at the number who suggested you replace the shower doors with new ones. That is such a waste of what little money you have when a beautiful and colorful cloth curtain as I suggested not only covers the shower door (1 problem solved), but also gives you a decorating "start" (2 problem solved). You can use the same curtain design in front of the washer/dryer or bi-folds which is what I have in mine. I did send you a photo last time but I don't see it above so I'll attach again. Maybe if so many people are saying a door should hide the washer / dryer that must mean most people prefer or expect that. If someone is looking to update and improve their bathroom for $1000 I think they need to do more than just change the paint color or curtains. Those decorating items do not improve a space for financial gain.

The easiest fix would be to purchase heavy duty, waterproof, vinyl floor planks from Home Depot. The brand I use is Allure Ultra and I'm partial to the the white marble look. They are very easy to install, even OVER older flooring (if it's level and secure) and since it is only 1/8" thick it doesn't add much height. It is versatile, easy to clean, and hardly shows dirt at all! I've used it in three homes and all clients are VERY happy with the results. It usually comes 24 sq. ft. per case for around $70.00. Be sure to pull the toilet when you install the planks, as it needs to be install under the rim of the toilet for best install look.

In addition, I would paint the walls a light, warm, gray to go with the gray in the "marble" floor. I would replace the towel bars on the side wall with a molding rail with hooks on it. That would reduce the cluttered look and provide more storage for your buck. I would replace the cabinet over the toilet with open shelves, and I would replace the faucets and put trim around the mirrors. If you are handy and can do this yourselves your dollar will go so much further, of course.

So, I have been meaning to pull this all out. I used to try to decorate, but just kind of put it away at some point. I have these things I thought may work in the bathroom. Obviously, using all of these would be too much, but wanted to know if anyone thought something might work somewhere and then I wouldn't have to buy something new when I already have some decor items I like packed away in a box doing nothing. I have ben using the white and gold vase to hold my hairbrushes actually and thought the crystal pineapple (it's a candy dish) could hold some cotton balls or something, maybe? It's part of a set of pineapples and I have the other 5 in the living room, so it could maybe pull in something from another room?

I located our old shower curtain and stuck it up. Yes, I know it's not really the right "colors" for in this bathroom, but until I decide on a new one, this one still looks better than just the liner or those awful doors! Toilet unit is gone too. Bathroom feels much more open.

Have been thinking more about this as I have no desire to replace towels/shower curtains etc... again before we sell this place so I figure I should take my time and choose wisely. Looking at maybe doing something more along these lines instead. A little more spa like IMO but not boring spa like. I just really dislike that pale and overly neutral look, reminds me of a budget hotel. Still kept some color, but I think it's been toned down a lot.

Also, cleared off my vanity. Hubby did not want to put away anything on his (which wasn't nearly as cluttered as mine anyways). I did leave my hair brushes out, but put them in a carved wood basket thing I had. Looks much better (I think!):

What bugs me about your bathroom is the flooring, and I think replacing it could add to the value of your condo. We want to do our entry and powder room floors in tile some day, but for now, we just went with the new vinyl plank floors because they are water resistant and very inexpensive, plus there are new designs that look more tropical and updated (we have an Asian Modern house on a budget). Some look plastic-y, but some brands are really nice. I think Armstrong was the brand I was looking at at home depot. I spoke with the realtor who sold us this place and will be listing it for us when the time comes (and who knows the area/market etc...) and she suggested vinyl flooring too in the bathroom and entryway/hall. Also said along the lines of suggestions here in regards to new faucets, towel bars, framed mirrors etc... to just give it an little freshening up. We are going to do the floors and paint last, after we see how everything else looks together.

Get rid of the large mirror! Go with a oval this way you won't get the flashback of the washer-dryer in sight. personally i would find a wood or material valance in same tones as floor to put over the shower doors to tie in the bamboo colors. Highlight the colors of the bathroom with a few baskets or soap dispenser. Update the toilet area by getting rid of the bookshelf look over the door! That will help immensely, to get you a clean look. I would find some bamboo doors to slide over the w/d area , you can always put little shelves in there! upgrade your lighting and you got it made! I like bamboo as well, very pretty and calming in a way.....I can't really see where the washer/dryer is, but is there a way to hang barn type door that would slide....you could even tie in your bamboo to the door.......it would hide the unit and look really pretty at the same time.....also the thing about the shower curtain........I agree it would be really pretty.......I have seen where people have hung shower curtains and still kept their doors........might be something to try.........would add color and "soften" the bathroom............lots of luck !!! So I ordered the first few items for the bathroom- new towel rack for over the toilet, new shower curtain rod (a curved double bar), TP holder and a more appropriate shower arm for a rainfall head. All Moen (except the arm), which to my understanding is a fairly nice brand. Also decided by the shower to do hooks instead of a bar for the bath towels. We have a very nice 3 hook rack in our entryway, so i plan to put the 6 hook one from the bathroom out there for coats and I think both will be more functional. Once I get all those up and installed, then I think I'll have a better idea where to go from there. Also found some single panel heavy fabric curtains at Walmart, so think I will get one for covering the W/D and see how a curtain looks before going any farther with the door idea. If it isn't "right" at least it's easily returnable.

I didn't iron it and it obviously needs to be hemmed, but I found a decent quality curtain for the W/D area. Thoughts on print? The curtain is 50" wide while the opening for the W/D is only 28" wide. Any thoughts on how much I need to bring the sides in? Should I make it exactly 28" or a little wider?

I would start by ironing it and getting the length right. I like the fullness in the first picture.

I do too. Trying to guesstimate how much to take off on the sides, but I'm thinking to have some fullness but not way to wide maybe 36" would be a good final width?

Usually the width of a curtain is double the width of the window; also the way you hang it gives a different look. So when you put it on a rod it tends to puff out, but if you use curtain clip rings it falls differently. Also after shortening it the curtain will sit differently. Maybe try 1.5 the width and see how it looks. Sometimes fabric changes after washing and might get softer / shrink. Maybe wash it first, then iron and shorten and see how it looks. I like how it looks wide like that, maybe you don't need to change anything after fixing the length.

Ok, this is my idea:

Mirrors: You can put a frame over it or buy something more stylish.

Vanity wall: Use wall paper as your best friend! With big pattern and maybe in withe and gray.

Fixture Light: Put one more modern like an art piece, if you can go for a medium chandelier.

Over the toilet: Please, take off that cabinetry and put glass shelves or maybe only decor accents.

Shower: Take off the sliding doors and put a chic curtain maybe with the same pattern of the wallpaper.

Floor: If you can, change it for tiles in gray tones, that color never fails when you have withe furniture.

Accessorize it!: Rugs, towels, Maisson jars for tiny stuffs, a table with spa items, hooks with the first letter of your names over them (or a big picture!)

You can do much more that you can imagine.

I think that because you want to keep some bamboo in your bath, the best solution to your washer/dryer door would be to install a bamboo roller shade outside the opening to it. it could be up where they are usable and only closed when you want them to be hidden if someone else may be using the bath. no curtain in the way, when doing laundry.

Very very upset right now. After finally finding the leaf shower curtain I loved and despite placing the order 2 weeks ago, the seller contacted me yesterday to say their printing machine broke and they cannot make the curtain.

I looked at so many curtains for the shower and only really came up with one I liked in the price range I was willing to spend on a shower curtain. And I bought a generic looking neutral gray curtain I don't really like for the laundry area under the ASSumption the new shower curtain would be the main color in the room and would be toned down by something neutral. The new W/D curtain clashes with our old shower curtain I have up right now and I hemmed it so cannot return it. Now I'm back at square one, with a gray patterned curtain I now will need to find something to go with for the shower or just keep our OLD (8+ years) curtain and towels and get rid of the new W/D curtain for something that matches a bathroom set we are tired of and don't really like anymore. At least I didn't order any art that would now not work. Feel like I'm going to be stuck with a perhaps "staged home" or hotel looking bathroom devoid of all personality by the end of this process and can't afford to keep wasting money. Even little expenses end up adding up when their is multiple issues!

On the bright side, the new towel rack is nice and I swapped the 6 hook rack in the bathroom with the 3 hook rack in our entryway and each is more functional now.

Looks much better hemmed and pressed, and isn't an ugly curtain, just very very generic and like what everyone else has, which has never been my style.

I move my fake orchid into the bathroom thinking it would work with the new curtain that is now not happening, so I'm thinking I should probably just put it back where it was before in the living room...

Ditch the fabric curtain to hide the W/D, and use a bamboo matchstick shade instead! Since it can simply be rolled up, it would be a lot easier to work around on laundry days, too.

Since the shower curtain I wanted did not work out, I just got a plain gray one at Target. I can't return the one for the W/D since I hemmed it and can't afford to replace things once they've been bought, so I tried to work around it.

Thinking maybe I could do the green color in the towels and do a brown bath mat so there wouldn't be too much bright green. Will probably do brown guest towel set too. Thought perhaps nature-y art would tie the colors together and kind of give the feel of having a window. Open to other art options of a similar realistic/photo style still, but I'm not willing to spend much more than $50 on art for bathroom, which limits options greatly. This set of 3 panels seemed to be the best I could find that was cheap and could kind of tie together the green, brown and nature-y feel. Any other suggestions working with the 2 boring gray curtains (that wouldn't look even more boring)?
