There is artwork in the adjoining rooms, but it doesn't work in the dining room. No room on the breakfront wall and wouldn't look right on the wallpaper (no sidewalls because the sides open to the other rooms).

Looks great already and all minor easy fixes. Remove the plants on both sides of the large cabinet. Replace the left space with an interesting umbrella holder with interesting umbrellas; nothing needed on the right side. Try something on the table like the candlesticks or something else in your house you love. The flowers don't work so remove those and find another favorite item to place there...maybe small books.

With the restrictions you have given, why are you asking for help?

Remove the faux plants. Nothing is needed under the sconces. I would hang an oversized framed mirror between the two tables. It is too much empty space to leave as is. Use just the candlesticks and tray on the table closest to the bookshelves, and leave the other one clear.

Have your dinner in the dining room tonight and sit in the middle of the table facing the wallpaper. Repeat this several times. I suspect you will change your mind. The wallpaper will still be beautiful with artwork, mirrors, table lamps on the servers, etc.

If you don't want to hang anything on the wall with wallpaper, then I would recommend a server or console table between the cabinets and put the mirror or art leaning against the wall. You can put felt protectors on the mirror, so that it wouldn't scratch or leave marks on the paper. Or another option is very large oversized full length mirror leaning against the wall behind the console. Here are some pictures to give you an idea.

Have you considered the breakfront on the larger wall, since it is the larger piece of furniture? Your wallpaper will still be seen. Then the two small tables under each sconce? Then artwork between the sconces.Even with the pretty wallpaper the two small tables appear a little out of scale and I don't know if a piece of art would do the trick on the larger all.

The two small chests are bedroom nightstands. One does nor put nails thru wall paper - ever - that is why picture rails are installed below crown moulding.

At least put the two servers next to each other to make a larger impact. It looks strange as is.

Actually I've been reading all comments and suggestions, but most of them don't reflect my original question. I understand that many of you think that the wall needs artwork/mirrors and that the servers should be closer together. For a number of reasons, those are not happening, though I might consider artwork if I found something I really liked that would work (not so easy IMO). But, that isn't what I asked. I asked about what to put on the servers and table and what to put under the sconces.

I have decided to leave nothing under the sconces. I will also keep the silver candlesticks and tray (without anything else) on top of the server they are on now. I've picked up a couple of accessory items that I think I'm going to use and some new pillows for the couch.

No, moving the cabinet to the other wall won't happen. First of all, the wall it is on now is the focal point of the house seen from the front door and entryway. Plus, due to it's size, height and weight, it is almost impossible to move it.

@111ideahound -- I have gotten rid of the fake plants. I can't handle the proper upkeep of real ones; and certainly don't want them on my wood floor.

A silver coffee or tea service with considerable design presence would balance the silver candlesticks on the other server piece. The brown bottles are not formal enough for this space nor do they mirror the function of the silver candlesticks.

I suggest seasonal decor for the ten foot long table. Changing it four times per year will keep the look fresh. Mixing some of your crystal from the china cabinet with seasonal colors will be easy. Look at some Baccarat and Waterford ads. Sometimes with a runner, sometimes not.

I think the reason so many people commented on your wall is because those two chests so far apart make it look awkward, like something is missing in between. If you are not planning to put anything there, I would remove the chests all together. Here is my suggestion for a table centerpiece, actually 2 pieces. I would have 2 identical vases with branches.

Good idea, but OP is not open to changing the small tables or moving them out at this point :) A beautiful fresh flower arrangement for your table, changed out weekly would be great. Of a planter with orchids, ferns and ivy.

@SandyC. -- I don't see keeping up with changing fresh flower arrangements weekly, but I'd consider a planter. I new absolutely nothing about flowers, etc. Can you show me some links to the kind of planter you are talking about?

@Compelling View Interiors -- I like your suggestion very much. What kind of branches would be used in such vases?

I'm on the app, so can't do links. I get my orchids at the farmers market and change every three or four months when they stop flowering.They are less expensive than weekly fresh flowers :)

I've been looking around for a running for the dining room table to use in conjunction with something else. Is it okay for a runner to be much shorter than the table? And, if it is shorter, does it need a defined end?

You can have fresh cut branches sometimes sold in flower shops or fake ones you can buy in places like Hobby Lobby of Michaels. If you can find fake cherry blossom branches, I would go with those.

You can have table runners be shorter. It needs something in the middle to anchor it. The ends do not need to be refined. You can also have some that are longer and hang over the ends. There are some that use 2-3 small runners and place them perpendicular across the table with a flower arrangement in the middle. You can get runners that coordinate with the changing of the seasons and the holidays. Sometimes it is refreshing to get out something "new" when spring or fall arrives!!

You do not have to use fresh or real flowers if you chose not to. I have a Rookwood vase that I have expensive fake flowers for. One for the spring and one for the fall. Not a lot of upkeep and a lot of bang!!

I love the orchids, however and I use those a lot. Like Sandy said, you can buy them for ~$20 and change them out every 3-4 months when they stop blooming. It doesn't have to coordinate. Get ones that you like!!

Can you put the candlesticks on the table with some candles in them? I have a lot of "dusting" candles. Apparently, there are people that are burners and people that are dusters. I am a duster. Those candlesticks are gorgeous and deserve center stage. You could put something else on the tray if you would like to leave it on the server.
