You could go red, but it also depends on what colors are in the stone or brick facing...its hard to tell in the photo. You don't want the red to compete with the stone. You paint the door as well as the jamb and trim red on outside only. Inside stays the color of the interior trim.

i think that picture above makes the house look inviting. i went and looked at the rock again today and i think that are very bright red would certainly stick out like a sore thumb. the rock is a blend of grey, a light neutral, hints of a purple hue and a rust color. i think all along what i have been saying as red now is obviously more of a rust color.

always a good idea to pick a color from the elements that we are using for color coordination .

Donna, yes you can paint a red door with green siding. You can paint the inside of the front door any color you want. Can you post a larger picture of the brick adjacent to your door. Consider a diffrent color for your front soffit; some off white.
