It's probably ground and polished concrete, which can be made a lot more home friendly than the box store finish. If you haven't poured yet, try for a contractor who pours and finishes. That way they can use the aggregate mix best suited to the final finish you're looking for.

"which can be made a lot more home friendly than the box store finish" - thanks for the response - can you share with me a little more what you mean by the statement above - unfortunately we have poured - the finish looks good now - in terms of smoothness, etc - just want it to be a little more finished look once completed - but short of any of the artistic type finishing I have seen pictures of - that is why I was thinking about it walking through my local HD and noticed the floor - knowing that takes a lot of abuse

As well, if you plan to grind and polish before pouring, the aggregate can be changed to accommodate certain looks and control joints will be created to avoid random cracking of the floor.
