that's all you have is the 3 cans? yeah, not enough. I would do another row, possibly, and that island is very dark. I think those pendants would look great. do it. try the 4" led canned lights. very bright and cost efficient

Yes, you need task light to make the island counter really useful. The ones you've chosen will have a light enough presence that it shouldn't feel cluttered at all. Go, team!

I think they will compete with the chimney hood as a focal point. Hang some balloons on a string from the ceiling to see if you like having competing focal points. I'd do recessed lights instead.

I'd pick something different and do only two, "framing" the hood if you will. I AM SO tired!!!!!!!!!! OF GLASS ORBS! Major league dust collectors. Try a great lantern with no glass..Anything but another glass orb

I agree with Jan Moyer, any type of glass pendant in a kitchen is a grease and dirt collector. I like the idea of an open frame pendant. I think quantity will depend on the size of the island

Ditto on the two pendants. Something more of a medium size (not the mini pendants you usually see in groups of three.)

Wow ok..this changes everything. My island is 38x88 with the counter top so its not every big. My living room is right behind the island, so I worry about things that are too heavy. I was hoping to have something basically "disappear" since the hood is also a focal point. Anyone have another idea on the type of pendant light. Maybe in the $100 each range since I'm buying 2?

We went with recessed lights over our peninsula and just a pendant over the sink partially because we wanted more of the light over the peninsula to also brighten the adjacent dining area and we wanted the spaces more joined vs. separated by pendants and my husband prefers recessed, blah, blah, blah - now that everything is pretty much almost done and we've been using the space, I realize I would have preferred pendants for the softer light.

Sorry, but I think the open lanterns are being way overused as well, plus in my opinion they read too formal for your space. Try looking on etsy. This fixture might be too modern for you, but it was right around $100 on etsy.

Something to think about, although it may not be an issue for you -- my cook top is in my peninsula. We put 3 pendants over my peninsula without taking the stove into consideration. The grease/steam from cooking has a way of rising, despite the fact that we turn the down draft on. I spend more time cleaning/degreasing those pendants. On the + side, I'm glad they are glass and not metal.

What is so hard about spraying a little windex on your glass orbs periodically to clean them? Reading your comments, someone is tired of glass orbs and suggested something else; then somebody else was tired of what was suggested. This is a case of matter of opinions. Use the orbs you have or change them out to 2 larger ones.

Just use caution with the glass....if you need it for light, they are likely to be bright enough to burn your retinas if you put the "correct" watt bulbs in

Joy, spraying the pendents with Windex isn't difficult...IF you can easily reach them. Mine are only about 6' off the floor, but I'm short, so that means using a step stool. Plus the glass gets hot.

Marble design glass is nice. Caged light pendents are nice. Mason jar pendents are cute too! I hope that helps. There are candle ones too, crystal.

The best part of glass pendants is that the light spreads all around . All lights should be on dimmers. And undercabinet lighting works wonders.

Pendant lights will give direct light to the counter and will add more interest to the kitchen.

You will be hard pressed to find two $100 pendants that are big enough for that large island. I would say they should be at least 18" wide. The hood is not really that exciting. . .
