They shouldn't do any damage to your floors, because they just float on top. They come with stickers that keep the tiles together, but I don't know if there is a non-skid backing on the tiles themselves.

I've used them in a couple of different areas over our hand scraped hickory floors. They are covered in a non-skid backing and are quite heavy - which means they do not move around at all. We've had them in place in front of our entryway bench - my kids use it daily to sit and put their shoes/boots on and off. It's been there for about 3 years. There is some slight discolouration of the hardwood only because it is protected from UV damage (unlike the surrounding floor). Other than that you would never know that the floor area there has been covered with the tiles. We did have an FLOR tile area rug in our high traffic living room. We have a german shepherd who tends to track in a lot of sand / dirt from outside into that room where he spends most of his day. I didn't like the fact that the sand was working it's way between the FLOR tiles and accumulating under the area rug. We've switched back to a traditional rug because of that.

Thank you, charpell. When you vacuum, tiles stay in place? I don't worry too much about dirt and sand, but have a Beagle who sheds- a lot- and so I vacuum often.

Yes, they don't budge. For a period of time we used a single tile at the bottom of our stairs to form a "landing zone" for our previous shepherd when she was getting old and had hip problems. She used to lose her footing when she went from the carpeted stairs to the hardwood floor. That single tile didn't ever really budge. I would periodically use a damp rag to wipe off the back of the tile to remove any accumulating dirt to help it to adhere to the hardwood floor better.

I've had the FLOR tiles in my office for about 4 years now. REcently there has been a musty odor. I've cleaned the carpet, but the smell persists. They sit on top of hardwood floors. Anyone else experience strange odors with FLOR carpet tiles?

I have used Flor tiles on hardwood for years with no musty odors. I do lift them up to clean them (e.g. don’t shampoo them in place) and make certain they are completely dried before re-laying them down.

We had the same problem with white residue/mold beneath the flor tiles. I only use them now in small areas where I can pick them up and inspect the floor. Be careful. It can ruin a wood floor.

We had the same experience with mold growing underneath these Flor tiles. We LOVED the look of them. They were functional and stayed down well, but after a couple of years, we had a lot of white / black mold growing underneath these as well. I brought the issue up with the company and they said that if I spill something on them that this could happen. Well, we never spilled anything on these rugs (it happed in both bedrooms near the windows where these were located). As a post above, we also had hand scraped hickory wood floors. I pulled them up and it took hours to clean and mildewcide the floors. They need to make a version of these floor tiles that can breathe, otherwise these just can't be used in very humid climates (we live in Central Florida).

Flor denied any responsibility. So here we are left with 4,000 sq.ft. of ruined wood floors.

Shoddiest product We have bought in many years. The thing continuously moves around, the seams are not straight or accurate, we can’t even walk on it without it shifting and moving. Forget moving any furniture around! We are literally taking the $700 we spent and throwing this entire thing in the trash. Do not buy

I have FLOR carpet tiles in my home and have used them in commercial projects since I entered the interior design field in 1974. The backing on the carpet tiles is heavy vinyl. Not a breathable material. Heavier than LVT tile flooring. They are designed this way so unlike foam, the tiles stay stabile & do not break down.

If you had white and black mold growing under the tiles this is NOT FLOR's issue. You had moisture emanating from the wood flooring that was trapped under the vinyl of the carpet tiles. The moisture issue was in no way created by FLOR. I am in SW Florida and my tiles are directly on slab with no issues.

As for sliding around,,,,......seems to me that if you use FLOR as an area rug, FLOR recommends that the tiles be attached to one another using an adhesive disk/DOT to create a continuous rug. An approx 8x10 rug requires 30 tiles, with an average weight of 3 lbs per tile or 90 lbs for the area rug.

Rugs or anything can move when one smooth object is placed on another smooth object. What would lead to you think they would not? If you don't want an area rug to move then you create a non slip surface,. Here is the FLOR installation info.

I have used a source in Georgia for FLOR overruns and 'seconds'. They will supply FLOR carpet tiles, (though no brand names are used on this website) They also sell overruns and seconds from all the major carpet tile manufacturers in the Georgia area. Prices are good. They can send samples. THEY CANNOT SUPPLY ALL THE VARIOUS PATTERNS AND COLORS FROM FLOR.

Are the edges of the area rug tiles finished nicer or do you see an unfinished edge around the sides when used as an area rug??

The yarn on the carpet tiles is SHORT. It's not long enough to flop over. It is what it is.

I'm looking for 3 separate 9' x 12' areas rugs for a living room, hallway lounge area, and our bedroom. I was interested in FLOR until I saw the unfinished edges in all of the pictures on the FLOR website, both their own promotional pics and in user reviews. To me, this edge it gives an indoor/outdoor mat look or seems like a doormat, or something better for commercial or industrial application. It doesn't seem like a residential living room rug. Sharks, for this reason, I'm out.

As you know from another thread, I had a better experience with Flor than some of the folks here, but you're right about the unfinished edges. I wasn't bothered by that, but I can see why that makes it a no-go for you.

I actually love mine. We have it in our LR. However ours is a nubby texture, and is very forgiving.
