What do you have for flooring in that next room I see through the doorway?
It's floating floor... I think the colour would be too dark??
    Polished concrete?
Are you keeping the wood trim around the doors and windows that same color? I think the floor should flow from your kitchen into the dining room. If you cook a lot you'll regret having tile or concrete flooring. It will cause leg and back pain and anything you drop will break for sure. I vote for continuing the same floor you have now in the dining area.

Looks like you have wood in the dining room next to the kitchen. I'd recommend transitioning into the kitchen with a natural slate. It will provide you with a durable surface and I think it would work well with your cabinetry and countertop.

My friend has polished concrete with underfloor heating, totally amazing and worth the expense, never mind back pain !!!!

Hey Heidi, you must be young....don't worry--someday you'll understand! Foot pain, back pain, leg pain I could go on but I'm in too much pain.

I would do either a bleached hardwood floor like Ash or something as light, to contrast the cabinets or, a porcelain tile floor in a light color, minimal texture and large tile size (12x24, for instance)

Could use more lighting ,going for continuing wood floor ..

    Cork flooring would look awesome
I would definitely choose a lighter flooring too.

I have Mannington Sobella vinyl.. yes, vinyl!! in my kitchen. It is beautiful and soft under foot... not your grandma's vinyl. Pictures don't do it justice.. it looks like beautiful stone with warm greys, creams & slight terracotta tones. Find a Mannington dealer near you to see it in person.. You may be pleasantly surprised. I also like that it is loose-lay so if I ever want or need to change it it will come out easily.

A grey tone would work lovely and I like the concrete idea or some stone/slate tile in that tone. I have tile floors running through my kitchen and my legs/back don't hurt and can't remember every dropping anything that shattered -- if you do.. it cleans up. .

Great color! there are a lot of options that I like. My dream kitchen is a blue and yellow kitchen, so I would go with something like that, maybe add some yellow on your floor. You can also go with anything gray or even wood!

Hi Lee lee, more like I'm desperately trying to stay cool !!!!!
nice natural soothing Carrera marble would look great against the blue cabinet... just remember to pull your house together ... don't cultivate a different look in every room.

I've seen floors tiled with pennies and I think it would look really cool here. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/11/05/article-2228162-15DC088C000005DC-12_634x474.jpg

Why are they doing the floor now? They should have done the floor before setting the cabinets. What bad planning is that! Our floor tiler would be very upset if we called him in at this stage. The chances for damage to the cabinets now is very high.
I would suggest maybe a grey cork flooring... It's nice on the feet and grey would complement the blue/purple cabinets.. But I also agree with the person above : why do the ceramic now ? It's supposed to be done before the cabinets...

floating floors do not go down until after kitchen is in perhaps you could continue the floor from the dining room into the kitchen what color wood is it?

deleted my last comment...looking at the kitchen and wondering why the flooring wasn't done before the cabinets were installed. What is the floor now? Does it have to be replaced, because the color seems to be working.
    slate.
The first attached photo is my favorite. Wood that appears gray/light weather beaten/distressed. And then slate, I would do large, very large squares then smaller squares.
What are you using for backsplash???

Have you considered using cork flooring for your kitchen? The picture below is Dubious Cork WS090455 and the link to see it and other cork floors links below. They have installed this type of floor in HGTV in kitchens too.

    It depends on your budget

I'm using an Armstrong product called Luxe Plank Best in their Luxury Vinyl line in my kitchen remodel. It looks just like hardwood but was less expensive and will withstand my four dogs and country household. They have multiple different colors and types - wood look, stones & naturals & even some great patterns. Here's the website: http://www.armstrong.com/flooring/products/luxury-vinyl

I think you should continue with the floating floor. Paint the walls a shade of white and invest in some large white ceramics and mod wood vases to brighten the room.

I agree with the designers that are recommending the distressed wood look, in either porcelain tile or vinyl plank flooring. If you are green-focused, i know some Vinyl Plank Floor (VPF) are available with recycled materials in their composition.
Something the same color as the counter.

The linoleum is green too and comes in really cool colors!
Thanks everyone, I need something durable, not to expensive as I have five children and a dog, probably should have told you all that, I like the timber option but am going out to have a look at the Lino although it kinda sounds like a dirty word.... I looks really good in photos and I think it might bring the house together, will look at doing the dining lounge as well, I will let you know how I go ;-) moosh

To keep your kitchen from looking too dark, I would go with something very light in color (off white). Check into stores that carry linoleum flooring and get the information you need. I have posted two images of kitchens with bold colors and white flooring. White flooring is no more diffucult to keep clean than dark ones, if it is a good quality floor.
I would continue the flooring from your dining room, if you feel it is too dark I would opt to have light wall colour to highlight the blue kitchen and timber flooring. The only other option would be as someone has already mentioned polished concrete but that would have had to have been decided prior (I believe) or tile, but I prefer continuity the break in colour/texture would bother me. Good Luck and well done in choosing blue for your kitchen - I would never be game enough. Looks great.

I would go for a white quartz with mirrored flecks..it would compliment the high gloss of your units perfectly

mooshhead, Congrats on your kitchen remodel. A light maple floor. :)

I would use blue/aqua sea tile pebbles!

I would recommend a porcelain tile in a larger format like a 24 x 24 or 12x 24 format with tight grout lines. Your space would appear larger and easy maintenance which would suit your lifestyle. Porcelain tile is durable--perfect for your busy household and cost effective. I think a gray hue would be perfect! Once you decide on the kitchen flooring, the key is selecting a back splash that compliments your space.
