I would love everyone's design help with my great room - we are looking to redo the fireplace surround, mantel, and add built in shelves on both sides.

Our issue is that we only have a 6.5" clearance from the window to the corner, so the built in shelves cannot extend all the way to the left. We are thinking of having the left side of the unit angled, so that it doesn't block the window, but not sure if it would look odd or not.

I love the traditional white mantel and column look, however, the width between the fireplace opening and end of the fireplace wall is only 12", so there is not enough room to have a nice thick column and also meet the combustible clearance of 6". We can bump out the columns a few inches but that would take away from the cabinet space on either side for the built ins.

My other option would be doing stone on the entire fireplace wall, and adding a floating mantel since I know it'll work with the space we have.

Would love any thoughts or ideas for this tricky space! Don't mind the toys and pack n play all over the floor.
