My best piece of advice is to put a small round pond where it is. I am inspired by the pond in the Jardin Les Tuileries in Paris. It is a very low pond, with a small fountain in the center. You have the base so put simplistically it would require a liner placed around a small circular raised wall.

These ponds are worth their weight in gold. They don't require the maintenance of a pool, but require an odd chlorine tablet maybe once a week; they allow you to dip your feet in on a hot day or trail your hand in it to cool off; they allow you to just sit by them and with the sound of a discreet fountain, the sound of water is refreshing. If you want, create a low seating area around the wall, for people to sit either feet in or out...

Could it be covered with rocks or a box of wood filled with soil for a garden?

I agree that you should really decide what you are going to do with the rest of your property--what you really want and how you will be using it. that will determine how you will use that particular piece by the shed. what sort of remnants are there? is it concrete or just dirt? if it gets a lot of sun, it would be a great place for a garden.

The remnants are just what you see...sand and the wood semi-circle. Unfortunately, the spot is pretty shaded due to the shed.

I agree .. You need to have at least a vague idea of what sort of garden you want to end up with. I've no doubt there are plenty of ways of using the remnants of the pool, disguising them or covering them up completely ... but this is hardly the starting point of an all new landscape .. Or are you not intending to add more features/planting out there ?

Great idea, einportlandor! I wasn't planning on adding anything else to the yard. I am not that great with landscaping.

Someone might even haul the sand away if you advertise it is free. I once advertized a chain link fence and an entire family who raised dogs came in and had it out and gone in half a day.

I would make an extension of your shed to tie into into it with a pergola. Could provide a nice seating area with nice planting around it.
