Need ideas for a large high niche in living room

This is a home we rent and live in 4 months each year in Sarasota, Florida. If I come up with a good idea, our landlord may allow me to change it. I have an art background and am able to paint and craft things. I want to keep the cost down since it is a rental. What exists there now looks like an aquarium and is too kitschy for my taste. Something more sophisticated and less detailed and up to date is what I'm looking for.

I would try to purchase something that you could always use later in your own home. For example there are many large metal wall medallions that you could hang from the ceiling which would be decorative and not be such a dust collector.

It is lighted? Put shutters over it like a window? The light can shine through, in the daytime anyway.

Since you're only there 4 months I'd just ignore it. I hate those niches. I'm a little OCD so all I can think about is the dust /cobwebs collecting up there.

And, if I owned the house I'd drywall over it & put nothing up there ..it's too high for art.

Up to date is getting rid of it These are so stupid and serve no purpose except to drive people crazy and i agree way too high for art

the only way without spending money, because is a rental, put a huge something to cover the hole
