The blinds are cutting out a lot if natural light - might you consider swapping them for something that still let's the light through ?!?!

Improving recption? I am not sure what that means. How about swapping out the white pillows for some colorful ones? Take the colors from the painting and toss in a black one, too. Otherwise I think the room looks great. Maybe jazz up the lamp int he corner. It looks a tad small for the space, maybe?????

You have a good start. What is your focal point? I would choose the window. So, why is your couch facing away from it. Maybe there is a good reason? It would be good to see more pictures. Otherwise,

1) Move the couch to where the 2 smaller chairs are. Turn the couch around and have it face the window.

2) Leave the one larger chair floating where it is and place the other chair like it next to it.

You should now have an L shape, with the couch facing the window and the larger chairs perpendicular to the couch.

3) Take the smaller chairs and place them against the wall with a table in between them. If the table is large enough, you may be able to leave your large picture there.

4) Remove the little candle things to the left of the painting. They are doing nothing for you.

5) Hang your blinds higher, so that when opened, they are not diffusing light.

6) Get a few pillows and/or throws that pick up the pattern in your carpet and painting.

How about adding some color by painting the walls. Update the room by changing out some of the white pillows to pillows with pattern/color, adding some table lamps, rearranging the sofas (move the largest sofa to wall where large artwork hangs), love the floor but maybe the rug you have is too small for the space, the windows are a nice feature that could be enhanced with different shades (maybe roman shades in a complimentary pattern/color and or stationary panels on either end could be a beautiful focal point in the room), the end and coffee tables could also be more substantial. You have great space with wonderful light. I would start with rearranging the furniture, open the room up so the windows become a focal point. Have fun!

Thank you everyone. Some great suggestions. I don't want to have as a focal point the window because the view is not great. I'm surrounded by ild and ugly buildings. I will swap the love seat with the big chair and add some color as a starting point. Will add more photos soon. Thanks!

Flip the sofa with back to window to the other side so the outside view becomes part of the sitting area. Hang neutral drapery panels close to ceiling to cozy up the space and create more importance. If you can, buy a larger coffee table that is textured, grass cloth or rustic wood, so that your space is better utilized and proportions are correct. You could also use a larger area rug. Again, if you can replace the smaller chairs with two larger neutral colore chairs, Scale and proportion are critical in a well designned room!! This is where most people go wrong. Also, lose the knick knacks , if they aren't too sentimental. Less is more. A lot of little thing in a room lose the cohesive look you are trying to achieve. I'm an interior designer and hope this helps. Not sure if I saw all of the pictures, so not sure the sofa can be flipped. Just be mindful of too many smaLL ITEMS IN A ROOM. BETTER TO GO LARGER WITH FEWER PIECES. GOOD LUCK!

exchange the love seat and chair making an open U shape arrangement around the coffee table.....use only two round end tables at each end of sofa........find two fairly large round fat lamps for each end table....they will need to balance the large sofas and need white shades to tie into sofas.....or maybe large fat white lamps w/black shades........take away the floor lamps, tan shades are a distraction, take away two straight back chairs, center your large picture over love seat, move candle holders that have same color as your picture to side wall above low chest ?.......love your white sofas....nice room

It would look nice with floaty white curtains instead of blinds, a big floor to ceiling mirror leaned (but fixed that way) against the wall where the chair under the picture currently is, and as big a chandelier type light fitting you can add to the ceiling as possible. I do like the picture though, hopefully you have a wall from the place where you took the photo that you could hang the picture so it would reflect in the mirror? Cushions that would tone with the picture would look nice. If you keep the picture tones I would suggest a mirror with an aged gilt frame.

Try the long sofa on the long wall, flanked by the two lamps. Move the short sofa to face the window and the chair across the rug facing the painting. Move the chest from the corner and the two straight chairs (without the pillows) in front of the window. Here is a nice drapery style for you. I think you could use a much larger rug.
