I wouldn't put drapes around the door because there is not enough wall space on either side of the door. I recommend a valance or cornice for the window and a Roman shade in coordinating fabric on the door.

Amazed to find this! It is exactly my living room situation, except for more space to the right of the door. I disguised the door to match the other window. Used panels w/valances, wanted to cover the switch plates/outlets; placed the valance on the wall over the door and matched up the left window -- didn't need to use the door. It worked well but now needs updating. I love the roman shade idea. But, I have the same blinds as the orig. poster because they cover the bottom of the very unattractive door and when opened you still gain some light. Is there any style of valance at all that would work if I keep the blinds? Thanks!
