Kitchen help!

We are wanting to update our kitchen countertops with quartz. What color would look the best? We plan on painting the walls too. Very tired of the brown scheme. The cabinets and floors have to stay. We have been leaning towards gray quartz. Thoughts?

I think a light grey and white quartz would add some wonderful contrast!

    Maybe something lighter.

We had been leaning toward the darker gray...concrete color maybe, and then lighter walls. Would that be too dark?

It might make the kitchen seem a little dark & heavy.

I think going with a dark gray in the counter top would make it feel really dark. Your cabinets are dark and your floor is already dark. I really like the idea of doing a warm medium or light gray.

Here a few looks of dark cabinets with light counter tops that look very nice.

    Too dark?

Yes I think that is going to make the entire room look dark and heavy. Our cabinets aren't as dark as yours but we went with a lighter granite (Colonial Gold) for more contrast with the cabinets and to keep it from getting too dark.

Way too dark. Your cabinets have a lot of yellow in them and it will make going with grey very difficult. Best to stick with more beige or cream countertops that are light. Kind of like what you have. That will not clash with the floors, either.

Then you have to decide what to do with your sink. And your faucet. And.......

Once you start, you will have a lot of other decisions to make.

I think changing the knobs and pulls to a brushed nickel would really give you a big bang for your buck in terms of change. Plain , simple style.

Natalie, I like the last one. Light enough to contrast with the cabinets but not so stark. I think you might have a winner there.

Here's a quick look at that counter on your cabinets.

Our cabinets are quite similar to yours. Here's our choice (and a closer view in next reply I took during construction).

I don't think it is yellow enough for your tile floor. Especially based on Kevin's photo.

What about this one? This looks pretty good in person and the right color tone. Thanks for everyone's help!

Here is the Cambria website and some suggestions:

Berkley, Bradshaw, Brecon Brown, Brown Hill, Buckingham, Canterbury, Cowswell Cream are a few that I think you should consider. MAYBE Aragon or Bellingham. These were just a few off the top.

Natalie, I don't think it is yellow enough. In your picture, see how it does not blend with the flooring?

Besides, pretty good is not good enough!! You want something that knocks your socks off!!!

The photos of your floor are all over the map, colorwise, on my monitor. On some they look yellow but they look pinkish grey in the photo with the dark samples. So, I'm confused.

@barncatz I'm confused too! Our floors pull so many different colors depending on the light and what's around them. I'm going to have a designer come over and help us so we get this right!

NO to the gray... you have a nice room, clean lines... you need to start with a beautiful backsplash... I would not spend on quartz.... it looks very functional and warm the way it is.

I cannot stand the countertops anymore! When you look closely, they look like crunched up leaves. I also am dreaming of an undermount sink, so something has to change!

Paint the upper cupboards the wall colour: they're too ponderous at the moment.
maybe a darker one? black quartz.. then put LED lights under your cabinets. Paint the wall very light grey or off whites =)

I love your cabinets! I think you need to look for something with the same color tone/value as what you have.

An undermount sink is fine, but then you have to worry about chipping the granite/quartz when you wash pots and pans!!

Think about adding under cabinet lighting and painting the plug covers the same as the wall.

Actually, the countertops you have match perfectly. They hide a myriad of spills, stains and oopsies!! I am sorry you don't like them.

Since your floors are warm in tone, I'd pick a warm gray for the counter. A cool, blue tones gray would end up clashing with the floor.
