After a nasty house fire last summer, I'm currently in the process of renovating our home. All of the rooms have been painted, however I'm struggling to choose the right colours for carpets and flooring and I would really appreciate some advice/guidance.

I do like to keep a level of flow and consistency throughout the home, however I would prefer not to have the same carpet/flooring throughout the entire property. Aside from the kitchen and utility, all rooms will be carpeted.

The wall colour choices are a mix of pale to mid greys and pale and olive greens, with a white living room.

The property is a cottage in the middle of the countryside and on farmland, so I want to be cautious not to go too light in colour for the downstairs rooms, however I am keen to opt for lighter shades in the upstairs office (very pale grey walls) and dressing room (potting shed green - quite pale in colour).

I would love for the carpets to be comfortable and stylish, however I don't want or need them to scream for attention. Plus I'm on a fairly tight budget, so this needs to be considered too. I have ordered over 20 different samples so far but very few have impressed me, if anything they have just confused me further.

If anyone could point me in the right direction or give some advice on what they think would be most suitable, then I would be very grateful indeed.
