Looks like you have it fairly well in hand. Are you unhappy with the design?

Mostly fairly content, hoping to add a flower bed along the fence which isn't in the hedge to soften that side and keep a fairly large lawn area.

I really like the arrangement around the tree and curved steps, but the straight walls either side I'm not so sure about, but equally not sure what else to have there.

What about a swoopy flower bed starting at the light post, running along the office at the back of the garden and part way down the hedge? That maintains maximum length of the lawn and would be a nice foreground for the office and lamp.

Narrow beds along the hedges would be fussy and difficult to deal with. Ideally one would allow several feet for the hedge and roots then have a bed 2-5' wide in front of that. This garden would be lovely with all those flowers but there goes your lawn!

Flowers in front of the office would be really nice. The hedge is only down the right hand side as shown on the plan, the left side is standard 6' x 6' lapped fence panels, so I could certainly add beds next to them and soften it. Or are you suggesting planting down the right hand hedge side as well?

I like my garden but don't want the maintenance to be too high, so need to keep flower beds a reasonable size, or maybe choose the right plants I guess.
