opinion needed on Kitchen Layout

I am doing away with the breakfast area which will make my kitchen 23 x 9 with a 9' island which will accommodate the seating. This will also open up into dining room. The problem is the placement of the refrigerator. I feel the first plan has it too far. The next plan has it too close to the kitchen sink

Of the two, I like the first plan more. But the fridge is right next to the sink which hinders the functionality of both. Instead of a prep sink in the island, could you move your primary sink there?

I prefer fridge by pantry, just from a storage / prep organizational point of view.

We agree with Montebella Homes, it would make more sense to move the primary sink for proper functionality of the space.

These plans look somewhat professional but neither design is a professional design in my opinion! I'm assuming you are keeping the main sink under the window because that is where it is now?! I wouldn't settle for either one of these designs - if you are not working with a kitchen design professional, I'd advise you to find one and get a decent design.

We talked about moving the sink a little off center to the left to give more space by refrigerator. Any Kitchen Designer you would recommend in Houston? One of these were done by designer/construction person and the other one by a remodeler/builder individual.

I like the second one better. I always try to put the refrigerator outside of the main work zone so others can access it while you work. More wine or water, grab the ketchup or cheese, snacks for the kids while you're working.

The builder with the refrigerator by the sink mentioned that the main sink in the island could create a splash that would be annoying.

Gloria, he's a "builder" need I say more????? Sorry, I've worked with too many :) A real kitchen designer is what you need - have you looked at the Pro's on Houzz in your area? I used to live in Austin - wish I was closer to you now! My husband and I make a great team - I'm the designer and he's the contractor. What I set to paper he delivers in the field - he makes me look amazing and I in turn make his life easier by providing a detailed design approved by the client. I've done long distance designs for client, Maryland, Virginia, Minnesota - but your plans don't have any dimensions to go bye. If you could supply dimensions and pictures of your space (along with a list of appliances make & model numbers for specs) Check out my site and let me know....
