Growing any tree in a container is a natural dwarfing process - the limitations on root spread tend to limit growth as well.

I grow all manner of trees in containers - Japanese maples, conifers, hornbeam, eucryphia, stewartia, etc. and a bunch of larger growing shrubs and none have reached their mature size potential in the container. But they do require root pruning periodically and repotting to refresh the soil to keep the plants healthy and the size in check.

Thank you!
