the 2 rooms are indiv even if next to each other, not that it would matter. coral/teal are often paired together. just make sure you have 3 things of each color

And maybe something, art, pillow, rug, that has all your colors in it!

I really like the coral you have. I'd go with a pattern as you're missing that in these rooms. Something like this would tie in both your coral and teal. Put one pillow on a chair and another on the couch. Then you could do solids-or another pattern!!

What about the art you have on the fireplace above your couch. Is it big enough? If so hang it no more than 7" above the couch. Try something to humor me please! Re position your rug so the front legs of the couch are sitting on it. Pull out your chairs if needed so they, too, have legs on the rug. Everything looks a bit pushed back against walls. Hi. You have a great space. Instead of starting with an accent color, that should come at the end.

Let's start with something that inspires you and go from there. Do you like the art over the fireplace? If so, what colors are in it? Hard to tell. What color is the brick on the fireplace?

There is no need for an accent wall color in this room.....just needlessly chops it up.

The furniture arrangement should be tweaked. Foot traffic is walking through it and it is spread to far. Here are several options for you

opt 1) Move the sofa forward, creating a "hall" behind it. Move the recliners apart more and back if you can. Buy a coffee table for the center.

opt 2) Move sofa to face the tv. Recliners on either side of tv. Coffee table in the center.

opt 3) Move sofa to face the tv. Recliners face the fireplace.

Don't worry about the lamps and end tables. That can be worked out, once you get the furniture arranged.

Thanks everyone for confirming I'm not completely going in a weird direction. Jansgirl, I spent a lot of time trying to find pillows/picture with all the colors. Must be being too picky because nothing has quite caught my eye yet. I'll look at the specific suggestions a couple of you made. I'll try your other suggestions as well. The grandkitty came for the summer...over two years ago. I'll send him home to you if you'd like.

Well, it dropped a lot of my reply. That first pic on my reply was what started as my inspiration. But basically just knew I wanted some color.
If I put the front couch legs on the rug, it leaves an awkward space behind it. If I pull in enough for walk behind, one must circle the bar and dodge the stools to get there.

It's just a small room. I don't think the bird pic looks very good over the couch...?

Irene, I kind of like that second picture over the console, and love the throw. Do you know where they are available to buy?

Jbt-agree. I just hung people cvs to check color. No intention of leaving those. The end tables are the max width that will fit though. Fell in love with the rug and didn't take it back even though I knew it should be bigger. I totally agree with the idea now of adding color in the rug. Trying to see if anything else would work first.
Just discovered 'see in my room' feature and having a blast with that.

Your rug doesn't have to be in the center of the room Pull it over about what? six inches? so you are moving the rug, not the sofa. Leave the sofa against the wall. Make sense? (by the way, I like that rug) I vote for the birds art. Or the flowers. I like all the color. Do you sew or have someone that could do pillows for you? That opens up a huge selection of fabrics for you. The "see in my room feature???? I need to go find that. Such a cool idea because I have a hard time imagining something in a room.

Here is an idea of how you might pull your room together. 3 of the turquoiae mirrors over the sofa. Art over the fireplace.

I recommend you paint the vent, remove the mirror from the door area (perhaps floral art now over sofa can go there). Clock looks lonely to the fith of tv. Let's find another place for that.

Thanks again all for the specific suggestions. I do like some of the art and pillows. I will try the two suggestions for moving the rug. The 'see in my room' came up when I clicked on a pillow sold on Houzz and clicked on to detail. Have to allow Houzz to access camera/photo (yeah...I resisted forever) and then choose or take photo and it puts it in there. Then can move and resize etc. I did speak with a friend last night about visiting a fabric store. I have two that can make pillow covers.

And original inspiration pictures. A couple of friends had suggested the pics would work better in different-I assume mean darker- frames. And moved pillows from chairs for now.

CDR-the mantel to the crown molding is 33", 72" wide. And I am not opposed to painting the mantel... agree with painting vent for sure, when certain I have the right color on the walls. The mirror is new and I like for checking my appearance as I go out the door (for some reason). As I get older, I tend not to pay attention to these things in advance. Ha! I really have no other space to put the clock and like to have one in here. Unless it goes above the mantel. Oh...and I actually spend more time on the couch than in the chair. I'll try your rug suggestion soon. Thanks for all of the great input!

JudyG- what color is the paint you posted? I couldn't click through, but I'm betting its revere pewter? Which always looks gorgeous in the pictures, but looked like cardboard or something on my walls. I wanted gray, but stuck with Greige/taupe to try to work around the brown brick fireplace that I so do not want to paint. But definitely open to paint suggestions.

Tweaking:

-move the chairs back a little.

-add a floor lamp to the right of the tv.

-move the tv to the right, centering it on the wall

-hang the clock above the tv

-hang the 2 dogwood art stacked on each other and to the left of the tv.

-you'll be able to add a coffee table in the center of the arrangement. It will be oriented more toward the chairs than the sofa.

This is 40 x 30. The light frame would pop against your fireplace tone. I would not add art that is wider than the firebox, even though the mantle is 72" wide. Your eye sees the firebox as the foundation.

What are you planning to do about the window treatment left of the FP? I suggest that short windows don't do well with long curtains. Consider a fabric or fiber roman shade instead. You can install them at the French doors too since there is not room for a drapery to stack back at the doors. The art above the sofa should be re-hung with only one hand's width between the pieces, and possibly lowered so the bottom frames are 5" above the sofa back. If you move them as CDR suggests, the same hand's width rule will apply, but they'll need to be centered 5' above the floor. If you want darker frames, try painting those to match the brown/tan color in the pictures themselves. Only one seat (the one by the French doors) is positioned to really see the TV well, unless the one on the left is a swivel. I think some adjustment must be done, especially if you get a new credenza and then re-position the TV. I think you could use a credenza that pretty much fills the wall from the return air vent all the way over; then place the TV at the center of the wall which will be on one end of the credenza. The white table and mirror are misfits here. The mirror is too big for the table and over the FP it would have nothing interesting or beautiful to reflect. You might try removing that vignette completely and place your two chairs side by side at that corner of the rug. Then try the bird art on the wall behind them.

So, is the double glass door your main entrance? I totally agree with Deco that the table and mirror are misfits. I know you want a mirror there, but that can be worked out.

If it is your main entrance, consider that the large chair is blocking the entrance.

Any way you can put the sofa facing the tv? I know you'd have to walk around the sofa to walk through the living room, but at least you'd have the sofa in a good spot and you could define the living space.

The 2 chairs could be on either side of the tv and a defined walkway could be where the sofa is now.

CDR- I like your tweak suggestions, except the chairs won't really go back any more as that hearth runs from the wall almost to the door. Both are also swivel, so need some room for that. Love that picture too. Did you find it at online store? That is the entrance everyone uses. The chair isn't really in the way since the opposite door is the one that opens. And the chair just blocks the cat tree. The sofa facing the tv would create same problem as moving it out from wall. Not enough space between sofa and stools to squeeze by comfortably.

Deco-Many good suggestions you have as well. I'll ponder all of these great tips from everyone and see what I can do. I can't believe how many have offered assistance. I get overwhelmed and paralyzed sometimes, and usually just never quite finish. But you all have inspired me with fresh eyes. THANKS!!!

You are very welcome. I highly recommend you hang 3 of these over your sofa. They will reflect the art and fireplace and make the room feel so much larger. They can replace the awkward mirror by the entrance.

These would work if your sofa is around 85-90" wide. I presumed your sofa was about 36 high and your doorways were around 84" high.
