It is a beautiful bed and if you use it your bedroom will be unique and beautiful! But it is very large and would require a very large room, but I love it!

I had a similar sleigh bed for over 10 yrs that required a foot stool and special sized bedding. It was a very overwhelming bed, and I'm glad I got rid of it.

I'm not exactly sure what your dilemma is here. Did you just purchase the bed or just ready to buy a new one? I'm not sure if it's exactly dated because this style is still being sold. It's a very specific style that's been around an extreme long time. If you love it, then keep it.

It's about 15 years old. I don't need a stool, and it takes a regular king mattress. But it is definitely a large bed. We have been remodeling the house in sections, and I was basically wondering if this room should be next. But I think it can wait!

My new bed has a low profile foot board that I like better, unlike my old sleigh.

After 15yrs, you definitely owe yourself a new one, but wait until you figure out what and if you are going to change the direction of your room. I completely redesigned my room starting with a new and wall paint.

If you are worried that it's dated, then you must want something new and fresh. I wasn't worried about a dated bed, since it's behind closed doors. People don't usually see what's inside bedrooms, unless you invite them in.

I am definitely tired of having a huge footboard. But currently I'd rather have a working bathtub, ha!

Can you remove the footboard? Shouldn't be hard to jimmy something up to hold the rails, and bedding will cover it.

I've had that thought before - removing footboard. But I'd have to alter it (not solid wood) or find some way to replace the footing.

Just wait till you figure out what you want. Maybe post your bed and any furniture you don't want on a sale site and get funding for a new one. Might as well replace the whole suite of matching furniture after 15yrs.

But, just saying...It would be a matter of half an hour for a handyman to build a new footboard. Or if you don't mind destruction, it would take two minutes with a skilsaw to chop it off at the bottom of the slats. Not that I'd recommend that--you don't seem to hate it that much lol!

Well, just replacing the footbaord wouldn't destroy the old one. Skilsaw would.

The bed is timeless but you could update the decor. Larger and lighter in feel night stands and not two identical ones. Larger lamps and a more modern fan. Maybe change in wall color...then see how you still like the bed.

You could paint the bed black or a white wash, depending on direction you would like to take. Used furniture is very hard to sell these days and a pita. So, think about those possibilities. I could see this black for sure. It would give it more modern vibe. If that is what you are going for?

The sleigh bed scale is way too large for your room. If funds do not permit a new bed, then simply purchase a standard metal bed frame (not expensive and resale shops have tons of them) attach the headboard to the frame, and store the side rails and footboard. Easy.

I have no idea how you would know that, as I do not see any idea of room size. As for the bed itself we are all tall and hate footboards but I don’t find the bed dated and if you have the space why not work with new bedding, some much larger lamps and a new light fixture

From what I can see, the bed looks beautiful and classic. However, you may want to remove the blanket box at the end of the bed which may give the bed a more dated look than you want. Having said that, I know that blanket boxes are such a handy item for storage but the scale of this item doesn't seem proportional to the bed. Would love to see more photos of the room.

Yes, the chest isn't scaled, I agree. Unfortunately I don't have a linen closet, so it's there for practical purposes. The room isn't fully shown, so it's hard to see just how large it is. We have plenty of space for a 60 inch (old style) TV (waiting for it to DIE), a large dresser, 2 rocking recliners, 2 large nightstands (they are large and proportional to the bed, but yes, matching), and plants! I'm happy enough with the room for now. I've got bigger fish to fry, but in another year or two, this room will get an update.

And I've had a new ceiling fan in my closet for THREE YEARS. We have been adding canned lighting in phases. The master bedroom is part of phase 4. We just finished phase 3 this month.

Forgot to say new fan will be installed during phase 4 lighting. Yes it's a fan, but I live in Texas. Fans are a necessity for our overworked AC units!

Maybe paint the blanket box dark black which would both make it disappear and tie it in with the color of the frames around the pictures behind the bed.

It's a cedar chest my grandfather made, so I think I'll keep it as is! It's really beautiful.
