My dh and I did this all ourselves. Pretty impressed with us ;) The opening is now 34" with a 36" sliding barn door. The closet is Bestar from Costco. 13 boxes totalling 1170 lbs!

But now we don't need a dresser in the bedroom so that saves us on room in there.

We just need a couple of fill pieces and put up a full length mirror somewhere, either to the right or mounted on thr actual closet system by the hooks.

I tried to change out the light but would have required a junction box install. Beyond my pay grade ;)

At first when we put it together it looked really melamine-y (which it is). But now that it's really together it doesn't have that cheap feel anymore.

Big congratulations! I'm really impressed with how well you've made use of that space. I think a full length mirror would work great on the side shelf wall next to the hooks.

Thanks LynnNM! That's where we're thinking too. Or along the right side wall. I'm shocked that there was little arguing when DH and I put it together!

I agree with Lynn. I'd mount it on that end of the shelf unit. If you have room for a small chair at the other end (where your laundry basket is), I'd put one there for sitting and putting on socks, shoes, etc. You'd be surprised how much you would use it.

You two did a really nice job with the cabinets and flooring! It looks really great.

I was thinking of a stool, but not a lot of room to open drawers. I do have that barrel in the ensuite to sit on too. I used it last night to bathe the kid, it was great!

What a wonderful transformation! Wow! I really like all the drawers to keep things out of sight. You're making me want to revamp my closet now.

I agree with Ida, all of those drawers have me wanting to revamp our own walk-in closet . . . and it already has drawers! BTW, I got a good chuckle seeing all the toy cars lined up along the tub edge. I remember those days well!

LynnNM that original pic was about 2 years old. He still plays cars, but no more lining up on the bathtub.

Oh it is gorgeous! I totally love it! what will you be hanging on the hooks? If it isnt something too long I would be tempted to put the hamper under there and put the mirror on the back wall. sometimes you like to see things from afar and from all angles ! :)

I smile every time I see my kids toys in crazy places. I know it won't be long. I came up stairs last night to the little landing in the curve of our stairs and there was an armadillo there. I cracked up!

We'll be hanging housecoats, pants, etc. So long things. The hamper is big too and just fits where it is. I can't give up my 3 sorter hamper, life is so much easier not having to sort laundry ;)

I was standing on my barrel the other day looking at my new Cole Haan 3.5 inch heels in the mirror. It's a wonder I'm still alive to tell about it!

Thanks nosoccermom! We are super happy with the bathroom. It's like a whole nice area now! It's just too bad my dh has WAY more clothes than I do.

While it wasn't hard to do the closet, it was time consuming and heavy. I am surprised that we did do it ourselves and I'm not scared it's going to fall down :) It's connected to the studs and isn't going anywhere!

I'd put the mirror on the wall to the right of the entry, near the laundry baskets. The stool can be by the hooks. If that was my closet, i'd have so much crap on those hooks, id have to move it to see myself in the mirror. On the wall to the right, you will never have obstruction for viewing because that space is designated for the drawers. A flat mirror there is perfect for that wall.

ETA, I have that same laundry sorter. Got it from Costco some years ago. Love it. Its in my basement laundry area. DH uses it for his farm clothes.
