If there is space for another chair to the left of the column so it matches the other chair you have, then go ahead. You could also have a nice planter in front of it.

It seems like your furniture arrangement is not optimum for TV viewing, correct?

Think about floating your couch in front of the column.

The plans do not appear to be drawing to scale, including the furniture shown. If true, I suggest you first draw the plans to scale to see the correct dimensional relationships between the walls, columns, and your specific furniture sizes. The solutions to your problem suggested above can then be assessed with a bit more confidence.

(Note: Occasionally, one will find that enlarging the size of the post, or changing its shape (by enclosing it with framing and drywall) can make it seem like less of an afterthought in the room's layout and more of a feature in the room. But this should only be done if there is no other good way to work with the post as is as you lay out your furniture.)

I was thinking of a pony wall too. I have one separating my diningroom from my tv room and its nice because there is seperation but still openess and it would definitely campflague your post.

Pictures of the room would be nice.

I'd put a second couch in front of the column -- better TV seating, plus you could put a console or floor lamp behind the couch as well...
