Need help with Painting Cabinets and New Countertop

We need to replace our countertops and sink. Considering painting cabinets to give kitchen new look. Update style. I really like the French Country Style, with a little Farmhouse touch. Would like advice on updating kitchen, regarding cabinets, countertops and sink. Should I paint the cabinets? The attached pics are of the sitting room, where the kitchen doorway walks into. It is painted with Sherwin Williams Artifact. I know that I need to clean of tips of cabinets and counters. That is the plan. Would like to work in some green tones. Greatly appreciate any suggestions and help to update. Right now, the plan is to keep the same floor.

Do you need to change the granite or do you want to change it? I'm no environmentalist (and I don't even really like granite!) but even I would try to incorporate that granite into my update instead of throwing it out. I think you can get a great look by:

painting the cabinets and fitting some of the upper doors with glass; changing the backsplash; installing a new sink; updating your lighting, fabrics, paint, etc.

These are current photos. Not selling. This is my home. Just thinking I may need an update. I need new granite and a new sink. Therefore, if I am doing that, wondering if I should change other things. I know some of the décor needs updated. **Sorry for 2 posts. Didn't realize last night's went into Other Advise not Design.

I think a pale green for the cabinets would be great I really dislike the window treatment in the kitchen and the rug under your table is too small and a marble look quartz for the counters and you could add a white apron front sink for a touch of farm.

I agree that the window treatments need to be removed and something simpler/lighter there would be better. I think your cabinets are lovely as they are, with the exception of the wooden breadboard wrapping the peninsula. If you change the granite, can you choose a lighter stone? I think the tile flooring still looks fine too!

I did not paint my cabinets for various reasons - probably because I like the warmth they give to my kitchen. If you do paint consider butcher block for the island top to bring back some of the warmth of the wood since you do not have a wood floor. Window treatments are part of French Country - an update on the valance would be a roman shade or tie-up - acting as a valance - or a faux roman shade - also acting as a valance, possibly in a floral.

I have a French Country / cottage style kitchen - simpler and older than yours. I have the Kohler Whitehaven "short apron" style cast iron farmhouse sink. The "short apron" style can be installed on a standard sink base. The apron is a bit shorter in the front than the "tall apron" style, but both sinks are the same in the inside.

I had retrofitted a cabinet with a plate rail a few years ago - I used a kit. That is something you might consider - a carpenter could do it for you if you don't DIY. You could also have the center panel of a cabinet removed and replaced with glass, or a cabinet removed and replaced with a small amount of open shelving - mostly for decor. I recommend only using the lower shelf for dishes so that it is the only shelf that needs to be kept majorly clean.

I also use vintage china, which I got at local antique stores very inexpensively, for decor along with floral art work. I plan to rework my valance into a different style with the same fabric whenever I get to it.

I was thinking antique white cabinets and sage green walls. Aged Bronze hardware and faucet. Eliminate window treatments. You have a pretty home, keep us updated. If you decide to keep your counters that would be great, if not check out cambria berwyn quartz, it would look great in this space.
