What kind of art are you attracted to? By modern do you mean the design style, or do you mean up-to-date?

Living room. I would like a piece that will also lighten and brighten the space given that the sofa is chocolate color.

You seem to like warm shades and/or shades of brown, so how about something like this?

Actually, I had and still have my wood with glass top center and end tables which I thought wete too chunky.

Bring back the tables and see if they work. Mirrors aren't going to benefit this room. Needs color and texture.

Would either of these work?

I feel like those wouldn't work without balancing them out with the appropriate throw rug. To just suddenly throw blue in that scheme without anything else to balance it out (throw rug/lamps) seems like a white elephant to me.

I would definitely purchase rugs etc. Rugs are easy to find opposed the right art piece

We have decided to have the room pain in an off white color with the borders and ceiling white. Then we will detach one arm of the chair then add some color ie paintings and area rug.

Are those two pictures of the same room? They look like two different spaces. I think you hneed to pull the sofa out from against the wall. Maybe rearrange some pieces. And yes, I think you need a rug. The new color on the walls looks fantastic!

The bue sofa area that's my library area. The library flows into the living room, then the dining room. I will definitely pull the brown out from the wall. Thanks for your comments.

I do not like the mirror in the library room....can you find something architectural like a bike, large part of a fence, something with texture, and a story. A gate, a window, even a rug? Tuck mini floor lamps behind each corner of the sofa or small sconces on the side walls at about 67 inches on center for hanging height from floor.

Large art work, maybe a pair or three above the sofa....bottom five inches from top of sofa.

Deep orange curtains, solid. Print ottoman in blue and orange print to pull both rooms together, orange and cream pillows on sofa. Berber area rugs in neutral for both rooms to relate to each other. Just some suggestions.
