What you are missing is contrast. VerY sofa and color, and walls are a great color too. They just don't belong together, necessarily. Consider lighter shade on the walls. Make one wall 2 to 3 shades darker than the rest. Area rug w/ additional colors that can be incorporated into accessories and artwork. consider lighting that highlights artwork on the walls or sconces for ambient light. When you light corners of a room, your room will appear larger as well.

It's a little hard to tell from the pictures, but if you are on a budget, I would start checking the department stores for nice grommet top panels on clearance. The grommet top tend to drape better and look more professional.
As for wall color, I recently painted over charcoal gray walls that I thought would look great, not realizing that the artwork I put on them looked depressing. I changed to a soft tan/taupe wall in a flat latex and painted the trim and panel doors a white semi-gloss. I used a few larger dramatic pieces of wall art that I had and now, hung on the tan walls the same pictures really "pop!" I never thought about that when I chose the charcoal gray walls. With the tan I used a warm Brick Red for my accent/contrast color. Not for everybody but I love it.

Try some larger more dramatic art work instead of lots of small pictures in a large space. I have found great paintings on Craig's List for very little money.

It also might help you to get a color wheel with paint colors from a paint store. The strips are on a ring so they are removable. You can put colors next to each other and see how they look.

Another thing I noticed is that you don't have much lighting. A torchiere floor lamp will give you some up lighting and a little "lighting balance.

Add 4" moulding on ceiling. New window panels in white, on each side of window. Not pulled across. If privacy issue. Get a pleated blind in white. Lowes has ready made. Just measure inside of window lowes cuts to size for free. Like color on walls. With white moulding it will pop. Get another bushy plant for that corner or just add to that one you have. TV tray by window should go, not right. Add more pillows to sofa, try yellow gray print. Add coffee table.

Pictures near plant too small

Maybe ad a chest on wall going into kitchen. A sofa table behind sofa. Would look good from kitchen. Don't clutter just a few items candles, plant etc.

A white slip cover would brighten the room.

I like wall color. But makes furn look boring. Are you getting new? The pic of room you wanted is nice and you can have it. Note window covers.

If you are buying new furn. Many stores offer for free if you buy, design service. It's well worth it. You can have the dream room you want. Remember sometimes you can be overwhelmed with the comments on this site. Each will have their own opinion . If you see the same advice coming up a lot, use that. Since we can't see whole room it's hard to tell you furn placement. Maybe a couple more shots from other angles would be best.

How about some pattern? You have a solid sofa, solid floors, solid drapes. No texture and no contrast. Looks boring with nothing interesting to look at.

There are lots of good suggestions here. It's been my experience that artificial green plants end up being nothing bbut dust catchers, and really don't add anything to the room.

Plants bring the outdoors in. They create a foil and give a break from all the hard surfaces allowing the eye to have a soothing place to rest. I prefer real plants, but when the maintenance gets in the way, a few are warming and inviting. We all love everything from nature. Just don't overdo.

You've gotten a lot of advice!! One thing I would add is to remember to bring more of yourself into your space. I use a lot of enlarged photographs in beautiful frames and try to buy something special, rarely expensive, when I travel to add to my house. It takes time to accumulate these things, but everything in my house has meaning to me and, as a result, my house feels personal and comfortable. I have also found it helpful to have chosen "colors" for my house, so my main colors are red, green, and gold. Whenever I travel or shop, I know what to buy because I've limited myself to certain colors that I love. I have shades of these colors throughout the house and they all seem to go together well. I agree with klatuchie completely! Your home should reflect you and what you are all about. Limit your palate, select only things you adore [for whatever reason], and your space will just fall together. One thing I have learned over the years though is to remember to edit as you go - overdecorating = overwhelming. Clutter is not a good look and it can happen gradually! The flip side is a room that displays no clue as to who you are and we have all seen those!

I think sheers in place of drapes covering the windows would lighten/cheer things up. I like sheers because people can't see in during the day. The sun reflects off windows, number one; and sheers further one's privacy. Blinds or drawn drapes are necessary for privacy at night. (Should you decide to go that route, allow enough space that drapes draw completely away from the windows vs. stacking up within the window frame & lessening the view.)

Still in process we had some mayor issues but thank god everything is back on place and can concentrate on making my home pretty!!!! Bought the new painting .......

If u need to keep your couch, then I would use bright color pillows and change out the frames on the Wall with light or bright color frames to match colors in pillows and or u can make the frames much larger when using a nice matting in the frame. Don't skimp on the price and look of the frames! You can use chunky sliver frame with color matting or cored frame with silver matting!

Wow I never thought painting was so hard we'll let me rephrase that ... Choosing the right color ..... Cause the colors look so different once they are In the wall...... Or maybe I just dunno the colours...

How did moulding come out in living rm? I like color of walls. But panels on windows not working. Just linen white panels on ends only. Not meant to close. Under that add bamboo shades in black.lower half way. All art is too small. You do Ot have to put something on every wall. Take all down. And start over with bigger art with bold colors. Add bold pillows to dark sofa. That chair in corner serves no purpose. Bring next to sofa,use dark wood end tables by sofa. Add a tree or palm to corner where chair was. That tray too high. Remove. Remove all items that have no purpose. Less is more. Just adding things to corner that are not to scale makes room look cluttered and not put together. Take all your family photos etc and group in a bedroom or hallway.

Love wood in bathroom. Gives it a rustic look.go earth tones in that room.

-- OK . . .I see panels that have 3 tabs on top for the rod to go through. You should extend the rod 18" beyond the window frame on both sides of the window. The amount of drapes you need on both sides - to get a nice fullness - will be atleast 2x the width of the rod. You can also take the rod all the way into the corners and hang panels on the rod, covering the entire wall, corner to corner, for a luxe look. Use a cream shade of white. Optic white is a cold white while cream is a warm white and much easier to live with.

The width of the panels stays the same though. Sheer or semi-sheer panels are really too delicate looking for the grommet hardware. Grommets look/work better on heavier fabricsl If you want to stay with sheer or semi-sheer fabric, think about tab tops in stead. Or if you want to keep the grommet look, choose a heavier fabric. Also, installing those big grommets in a sheer fabric can be a nightmare! A little easier in a heavier fabric but still challenging.

There should be enough panels on the rod so that when the curtains are pulled to the center [closed], there is still fullness across the rod. This is the reason for the 2x the width rule. With sheers, they recommend 3x the width of the window to get a nice fullness on the rod.

1st pix is of tab tops and the second is of grommet tops. The tab tops are more casual while the grommets are dressier and more contemporary.

The white panels work well with the white trim in the room. You could get the panels and then stitch a ribbon trim around them, or down the center edges, or across the hem on the bottom - just to add some pattern in the room. This trim could be close to the color of your walls.

hi, everything is similar in color. Punch it up with colorful pillows. Orange is always exciting...but experiment with your favorite colors. Pictures behind couch break up the pattern try different arrangements. The chair in the corner...after you put in new pillows, cover the chair with an appropriate color. In the corner take that arrangement off the wall. After you have finished the other spaces, think about what would delight you there.

Ok so yellow color is not there anymore I am replacing them on a ligth turquoise color ! See how that goes hahaha!!!! Tv is also going to be gone. Nice large piece of art would be good above the sofa. Hang it about 6" above the back.
