Since your countertop is in the brown/beige family i would paint the caninets off white and add aged bronze hardware. An off white backsplash with a taupe colored grout would be nice too. Off white cabinets would blend nicely with your counter and floor. If you are keeping white appliances, white cabinets and backsplash would work better than off white.

It looks like the cabinets have already been painted once, have they?

You found a nice, updated, open, well laid out kitchen. Good find. I've never bought a kitchen that didn't need immediate help!

Painting over already painted cabinets wouldn't be the best choice. No telling what they used to prep and paint. can you work w/that current color and maybe save up for new cabinets down the road?

I would be stripping the existing paint before repainting.

If you're stripping, you might want to stain the cabs instead:

This kitchen is a lot like yours in colour palette and is similar in that it has the 4" self backsplash--you don't want to add another backsplash on top of that. Continue the same wall colour from the dining room; no accent wall behind the stove.

If you really want painted cabs, off white would look very nice and safe, or if you want something a little More, sage green would work with your counters and floors. This look, but green instead of blue:

Remove the trim piece over the sink and if feasible, add a lovely light.

I love Lindsey's second photo of the light blue cabinets. I think that light blue against the dark blue would look beautiful. Here the floors are a tile but you can see how pretty the color is against the paneled fridge. I would strip/sand down the existing if new cabinets are out of the question. I would also do a light colored countertop. Like pictured. Congrats on the new home!

you could also go with a lighter than pictured concrete counter top and backsplash.

Stripping them seems like a lot of work. Another option would be to keep them as is. Remove the cabinet above the sink and hang a roman shade higher than the top of the cabinet to break up that line of cabinets. Add a backsplash, repair the blue if it doesn't go with your color scheme and add a rug. Voila!
