Interesting that the damaged tile is only at the diverter? I'd be worried about the REST of the shower. .........looks like an install issue of waterproofing. and subsequent tile pops?

I'd insert totally different tiles in the missing patch, and then replace 4 or 5 other tiles in random patches similarly. Make it look like a random, pixelated sort of thing. Think, Partridge Family bus.

Or, "steal" enough tiles from elsewhere in the bathroom, like under the towel rack, and replace those with something like terra cotta. It won't be seen most of the time, as it will be covered by a hanging towel.

Our situation is not the same but we installed different tiles in the shower and outside.

We also installed a bamboo floor in a wall and a little section in the opposite wall.

If tiles are broken, why not use the pieces and create a mosaik???
Possibly need to detach other tiles to create a patern.

Did you have to fix a plumbing issue? It looks like with the location you would be best with a wide horizontal accent strip or just do the entire wall as an accent. There should be lots of choices to coordinate with that tile. Buy extra to keep just in case you need future repairs.

The placement of your patch looks perfect for a vertical accent strip. You might consider having a 3 tile wide strip removed (the ones to the immediate left of the shower head, the ones at the shower head, and the ones to the immediate right) and replace with something decorative. How large are the existing tiles? A 12" tile would be too similar of a scale to work. Be careful of something colorful. I'd usually advise my clients to go with something neutral and add color to the bathroom with paint, towels, and accessories. You could go with glass, stone mosaic, etc and it would work beautifully.

Hi all, thank you so much! To answer some questions - the shower and bathroom floor share the 12x 12 tumbled botticino honed style. I think if I can avoid the 'accent strip' I'd like to as I'm not a fan of the style. The tiles I have can't really be matched easily because of the color change over 10 years that have passed and the naturalness of the stone.. and the natural tumbled edges... tough! With that said, some questions I have:

1. Can cement be removed off existing tiles to be reused?? to make that pixelated /mix it up feel? I feel like probably not (they're very fragile)

2. Is it better to just try and match the 12x12 botticino as close as possible and make about a 15 tile patch area ? Maybe it won't be all that noticable? or is it best to just find another tile like colorful moroccan style mosaic ? If the later,can anyone reccomend a pattern/style/company?

In answer to your questions (or perhaps better described as non-answers, with apologies): Often, existing tiles can be "popped" off and reused, but it's never a sure thing. You might find yourself popping off more tiles than you'd like (which admittedly can make for an even bigger problem). And I would never match the tiles "close but not perfectly". You will always see it, and it will make you insane. (And no, they will not likely age and one day look similar; they will age differently and always look a bit off from each other.)

There is something to be said for just, resigning yourself to needing to retile the shower in its entirety, as one person here suggests, and leave the rest of the bathroom as is. (And I agree with you, the accent strip thing just looks patchy, like you're a tile showroom anxious to show off multiple finishes for its own sake.)

Certainly considering redoing whole shower as a last resort but also considering something like this: (not color) but just idea of a mosaic in place of. Can anyone recommend someone who might be able to create a nice mosaic like this in NYC area? (ignore bottom left piece...was just looking for color scheme).

Cercan, Ann Sacks, Fireclay are all places I have used when building my house. I believe they all do custom mosaics.

or you can give it a try yourself by using this , a bit like a puzzle but with a lot of patience it could work
