Need ideas for Kitchen Backsplash

Large U-shaped kitchen with natural alder cabinets and baltic brown granite counter. I've had difficulty finding something that doesn't compete with the busy look of the granite. Design style is contemporary to modern. Thank you in advance for any input. :-)

I'm currently obsessed with back painted glass .. DreamWalls is the brand that I'm going to use in my kitchen remodel. The square foot price is similar to a granite or quartz countertop. You can pick one of the their 15 standard colors, or customize.

You can't get "less busy" then back painted glass -- heck, there aren't even any grout lines.

Interesting you mentioned that. I actually thought of "faux" painting the back of translucent plastic to get an alabaster look then backlight that. Is glass likely to break? Tempered I would guess? Thank you for that input, really.

yes, it is tempered. And they can do cut outs for light switches, a pot filler faucet, ect. They can even make switch plate covers out of the back painted glass to match.

I honestly think it's the "next big thing" in kitchens. The lastest wave of appliances coming out are even back painted glass (not stainless steel). You may have a bit of a problem finding a dealer/installer, but I suspect DreamWalls could put you intouch with someone. There are also several other manufacturers, but DreamWalls the one I'm familiar with.

I love the look, but I'm really looking forward to the cleanability of it (compared to tile and grout).

There are many options but you need to stay with something solid that has not texture to it so it doesn't compete with the granite. Also go for something with a little larger scaled pattern. So think of glass or ceramic subway tiles...

I'm with Brenda on this one we recently completed a remodel and used it in the kitchen and master bath shower. It is a stunning product!

I found this kitchen using natural alder. In addition to the back painted glass idea, I also like these large stacked tiles - looks like a porcelain? You could pull the lightest shade from your granite.

I love Brenda's suggestion to use back painted glass. A mirrored back splash would look great, too.

I agree that the glass idea is really great. I'm going to look into that. Does anyone know of someone in the Sacramento area?

David, I was having some mirror and glass cut from the local glass guy in my nearby industrial park and thought to ask him about "back painted glass" because I had become obsessed with it on Houzz. He pulled out a box of samples from DreamWalls and said "we can install this stuff, but we haven't done a job in it for 2 or 3 years, and they are usually commercial". So, it's probably not going to be "kitchen" people you are looking for, but rather industrial glass and mirror people.

I also asked him about "fabric fused glass", which is also something I have only seen on Houzz, and he laughed and said "you planning on robbing a bank?" My obsession with fabric fused glass ended right then and there. [houzz=

Hi again David. What did you end up doing for your backsplash? ... our kitchen reno is getting to the point where I'm going to have to pull the trigger on Dreamwalls soon if I'm going to do it at all ... Please share your experience (and photos!)
