Thanks Phyllis and JWAP. If you run across who makes that mural please let me know. I have project I am working on and this is perfect for their dining room! Thanks all. ;)

I figured! Not happening but if I hit the lottery I will do it for her!

Oh dear, just came in for a look after much time away from this dilemma, has Cani not surfaced for awhile, nice that you are carrying on and still concerned for her, hopefully she will reconnect and put all our minds at rest, wishing her well

I saw this yesterday and thought of all of you friends who love design-it is breathtaking!! https://www.incollect.com/articles/aesthetic-era-anew_1?fbclid=IwAR0BZbKpMY1LJLTVxB6oQ7haWAcBnevQUxiLedWkliw_meTGjC_-PuB8p-Y

GF, that is jaw-dropping. thanks for sharing cami, hope you are well

de Gourney = only the best for our clients! And worth every penny, as it is amazing in person, like standing in front of a masterpiece in a museum.

GF, I could look at that interior forever, there are so many details. In my interiors, I would just use one at a time, though!

That's one of the things I love about designing in NYC. There is something special behind every door and, I might add, a totally different view of the city. It never ceases to amaze me.

GF. That’s the most unbelievable house I’ve ever seen that’s not a museum. I was so flabbergasted when I read that “Margie wanted to make sure the family would be comfortable here”. Are you kidding me?! I was going to facetiously ask where the TV was? And voila, it’s hidden behind a painting. These folks must not be worried about budgets. LOL Thanks for posting.

Yeah. It was a feast for the eyes but I couldn't help but reflect on the fact that there was a time when I thought the gilded era and its gross income inequality was behind us. Those families had to give up their mansions, often after only a few decades or less of enjoying them, mostly because of economic realities. The staff it would take to maintain it alone seems impossible. And yet these folks printed their wallpaper with real gold so it wouldn't fade. And they have a monstrosity in the hamptons too, of course. While I do have a soft spot for gilded era mansions, I detest those 75,000 sqft beach-hogging behemouths.

I couldn’t agree more about the Oceanside monstrosities. And just because it’s done in good taste doesn’t make it ok. Last week I was buying red noses to feed hungry children and that wall paper alone would have probably fed thousands. Not trying to make a politically correct comment but sometimes it gets under my skin.

I can really respect the immense effort to accomplish this restoration. I can imagine awesome charity events on that lower level and many decades ahead even when these folks might sell it. It is a rare treasure. Obviously, they have the resources to do amazing things. Not my era but some amazing works.

As the lone dissenter, I always think back to the term " gilded cage". I have vast respect for the attention to detail in restoration......but for me a totally suffocating space in which to live with any amount of anything including the very vast resources of Michael Loeb.

Take my breath away? Yup, it sure does. : (

Maybe his other home is airier ? Meadow Lane , Southampton. Believe it , kids

All 16,000 square feet of it.

Those homes are nothing compared to Ira Rennert's 62,000 square foot Sagaponack compound, on 63 acres of beachfront, worth $248 million.

    Take a look here:

Don’t get me wrong, the Loeb brownstone is stunningly beautiful and I certainly can appreciate the work, research and artistry that went into restoring it. No question. And I’m sure they hold awesome charity events. I guess it was just the timing in seeing GF’s article that got to me.

So true Ladma. There are certain things you know about yourself. For instance, I know that if I were crazy rich I wouldn't fly around on a private jet or build a hideous behemoth in the Hamptons. But I also know that I might just be capable of being *that* person who invests ten years and enough money to end homelessness in my city having hundreds of artisans hand-restore the last single-occupancy townhouse in an upper east side block to its robber-baron era glory....thank goodness I will never know for sure...

Not my cup of tea at all, daunting space to feel comfortable in. OTT

It was and still is extremely controversial, and led to some new local laws being passed regarding the size of homes, etc. The good thing about it though is it is totally hidden from the road. All you see are trees.

I guess it takes all kinds. Some fill voids in their lives with ego monuments, others fill needs through helping others. Still others just live their lives as best they can. The beauty of America, we all have freedom to do what we want.

Sometimes people ask: "Are you ever jealous of the very homes you help others create??"

    My answer?

NO1 NO! AND NO! I relish my uncomplicated and smaller footprint in all regards. Often a relative "shoe box" compared with many clients. I see daily the stress of living large, multiple residences, you name it. I turn my key.........sigh in relief. : )

Luxury is the best mattress and sheets you can find, great towels, CLEAN, peace and beauty however you define it. A chair that is bliss. Enough to sustain you and yours and not so much you can no longer find peace. Wherever and however you live.

More isn't always that. It almost never is.

Hi All, Looks like I did get notifications but I didn't see them till I started cleaning up my 4,000 emails. I subscribe to too much stuff and then don't read them and it piles up. I'm doing well. Was checked a few weeks ago and everything is still good but I do have to do those treatments again (probably forever) as a preventative measure. Haven't done any more to the house. Waiting to have my previous sofa removed from the patio room and then want to start in that room. I think that will set the tone to get the rest of it finished. So I guess we will be back to designing again soon.

I see some great topics going on. Gorgeous mural! Are you all referring to that Kips showhouse or something else when you were talking about a restored mansion? I loved that showhouse!. First thing I noticed was the "Snow Leopard" Stark carpeting. Love it. Wouldn't work in my living room because it would just look dingy but I loved it in the room they showed it in.

I just looked back on what Greenfish posted and it said "this article is not available" so it seems I didn't see what you were all talking about. I was looking at the Kipps showhouse.

I was hoping you would get a notification some how that we were lurking! Just let us know when you are ready for more “decor on steroids”! Until then, take care. Hugs!

    Remember the curtain agony?

This is for a tip you will love, below:

Hang TWO pleats on ONE curtain ring. Your reward will be a billowy fullness that blows your mind . Try it. It cuts the hardware expense too.

    Also amazing with sheers:)

Love it. Are those stationary panels? Guess you would need double panels if you want to close them right? Love the look. Might try in our master. Humm!

Yes, they are stationary........... and double width, and...... believe it or not ? Polyester. Because every silk I touched in the right shade was back ordered to forever.

The really funny story behind this, was another install two years ago, and a box of rings had been left behind. Too far. I FREAKED. My adorable installer says......."Bella", we'll just put two pleats on a ring" WHAT? WHAT ? So he did it and I stood there dumbfounded ( fabulous as those were silk taffeta ) and said ..

Are you kidding me??! We've been hanging stuff together for nearly thirty years and you never ...............@###%^^ You've been keeping this secret all this time? That's it! I am never going to have "enough " ever again. Since then? Two pleats to a ring. And every time we do it we laugh.

( I'm a curtain gal, not a drape gal. I separate privacy and light control from curtains . I never close them and I don't let clients close them )
