Should I get a larger Tv for above the console?

Not fond of shape & proportion with regards to sofa.Seems to fit well in dining area. Go with a new light fixture over table.

Just thought, what about a light over painting? Might create some ambiance in that area with a tea cart/ bar under? Then tackle paint selection for livingrm

Your sideboard is a bit too large for the LR. Can you place is in the dining area on the left wall and change the table to something smaller and round? Yes mount the TV on the wall and select a floating wall unit for below the TV

Would it help if I centered the side piece in the middle of the wall. There is not enough room for that piece and another for the TV.

I'd put painting on dining wall, and aim a gimbal at it, or use a light on an arm (gallery style). Recessed lights on a dimmer to light dining area. The TV does seem small for the console... The console seems oversized in the photo... You could get a bigger TV, or downsize the console unless you really the storage. Good luck!

I know you didn't ask about this area, but the #1 thing I would do is remove all the small things on the entry door. Perhaps these are temporary and you do plan to remove them. Anyway, just a thought. And how about window treatments?

Thank you for all the input. I am very much in th need of storage that is in part why I purchased this side piece. I was also told by the seller that it would fit for the space.
Either way it is mine now and must make it work.

I agree with all one wall color...like the greenish tint behind the picture...definitely not the orange. I was thinking of the picture on the other side of the tv so tv closer to viewers and room is too narrow for a bigger TV. I don't think you'd need art near table but you'd need something over the sofa and window treatments to offset the painting.

I would hang the artwork in the dining room and add a chandelier as grover shows. Adding an ottoman in a color from the painting is an excellent idea. You could add some navy and orange pillows to bring over some of the painting colors as well. I would slide the console down so the end of it is even with the wall on the right then set the t.v. off center a bit. Then I would add two vases something like this to balance the other side of the console.

Adding a runner in orange to your table with a lovely centerpiece will add some color to your table, as would reupholstering the seats of your chairs in a brighter, more contemporary fabric.

I plan on painting the walls the same color. What other suggestions besides green? The couch is grey with a blue tone.

Move the sideboard toward the kitchen so that its right edge is even with the wall it sits on -- I think that's what katinparadise is suggesting. Next, shift the TV to the right into the best viewing position, even if that means it is no longer centered on the sideboard. This means there will be more empty space to the left of the TV than to the right -- use items like the white vases to occupy that extra space on the left. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I say you do groves idea with the painting, but a yellow one instead. With one or 2 plain white vases

I moved the picture to the wall you suggested.
The challenge here is I don't really get to see it. Somehow in the picture you created it looks more visible. In one of you photos you suggested on the side table. The painting on the wall can be enjoyed more when sitting on the couch.
I just placed it on top of something to get the visual.

Consider reversing the TV and sectional locations. Remove the base from the credenza and add shorter legs to lower it. That will give more room between the top of it and the ceiling so the picture won't seem crowded. You can mount the picture with the TV as grover showed, but reverse them so you can enjoy the art from your bedroom. If you get a larger TV you can also watch it from your bedroom. How about a new semi-flush drum fixture in the foyer and a clean up of the door there? You might find a really skinny floating shelf to use opposite the kitchen door.

I like color but a bit to big , maybe something smaller scale. or mirror will make room look bigger

I can't reverse the placement of the side piece and the couch. The couch won't fit.

For sure the door will be cleaned up as well as a new light fixture there.
The newly purchased pieces are the couch and side piece and rug. Everything else I am getting new.

I now realize that this side piece is big for the space. I do love it though and I will make it work as is.


The only place I can see the picture from the bedroom is if it is above the couch. After reading everyone's ideas other than Beverly the painting isn't balanced above the couch

Sounds like you'd like to see picture from bedroom. It's still large over sofa but perhaps you could put two prints or art objects on one side or the other of it to take half or maybe just a third more space to make the group as a whole more in balance with the sofa.

First choice would be to see from bedroom area yes. I also think your suggestion could work. I have no clue what could work with that painting above the couch.

It appears to have writing so could pick up on that culture, faith, or other images related to what makes this important to you. I wanted to clarify that the total side of all pieces together would be maybe 166% of the width of your picture. I recently came to understand that my home (especially art) should be my personal taste. So while there are guidelines for color combinations and scale of pieces, almost all of those can be adjusted to enjoy what you love. Be blessed!

Yes there is writing on the painting. The letters are in Hebrew and the painting is of the wall Jerusalem. This painting although
to the eyes of some may not work in my space...( even my eyes at first) I find having in my home makes me feel great. This is why
I appreciate all the suggestions on how to make these painting finds it's place.

Try adding pops of yellow, white, and orange around the room to connect the rooms. Also choose one color for all of the rooms, not the red that is currently in the dining room. The painting is great, it just needs the right spot.

I truly love art and design but there is a level of stress for me in terms of decisions.

Yes the most important thing is that I love it... and yes I do. I actually cried when I first saw it. I think at this point I am leaning toward putting it near the side piece. I can appreciate it while at the table and while on the couch. I will sit with all the info and decide. I have been know to change my mind. The man in my life makes fun of me... he says I can't even pick out an apple.

I love that you are coming into your own! Here are some thoughts of questions to ask yourself:
1) Am I drawn to contemporary look as in sofa and credenza? If yes, then:
a) I'd suggest choosing a light wall color in the same hue as the sofa (just much lighter so as not to be a statement); and if this will flow into other areas of the apartment, make sure it works there too. Contemporary sometimes has pop of wall color but generally wall is just a backdrop for other elements.
B) I'd suggest a dark (like IKEA's black/brown finish) dining table to pick up black metal on credenza. The chair seats could have cushion in wall hue or natural (though the stark white rug may make any use of natural look dirty).
C) I'd suggest a barrel shaped light fixture over the table with a white or natural shade (again considering whether rug makes it look dirty) or crystal chandelier in round shape.
2) Or am I more traditional like wood dining table? If yes, then:
A) you may want to pull a color from the painting like a camel, tan, or even a very pale gold. Those colors are considered complementary to the blue/grey sofa.
B) consider a different piece under the TV instead of the modern linear credenza.
C) consider an oriental style rug with colors that work well with your painting.
3) Do I need extra seating sometimes OR should I prioritize a place to set down drinks?
A) if seating needed, use an ottoman in either contemporary or traditional style.
B) if drinks, have table in wood if traditional or clear and/or metal if contemporary.

So many decisions...but it gets easier if you can determine what you naturally are drawn to instead of worrying about what's on trend at the moment. Go into a bookstore (or flip through Houzz) and note what you like and it should tell you what category of style it is (i.e. Contemporary, traditional, farmhouse).

By the way, I love the cobalt blue planter at the end of the sofa. That is one of my favorite accent colors and it is in your painting. Cobalt looks good with the strong orange in your painting. You may want to put a very small scale table there to hold a drink. If traditional with ottoman, a tiny piecrust table in wood. If contemporary and coffee table, then a glass table to coordinate with the coffee table.

I am for sure attracted to the look of the credenza and couch. I just purchased them and my attraction does seem to be more towards a contemporary feel.

I agree why you say about the white rug.
I actually moved that white rug to the bedroom area yesterday . I put a new shag rug that is more of a camel color as it creates more warmth. Still deciding if this works.

decided to go with a lighter color.


As far as replacing the wood table... I am still undecided. I was thinking to start I can get fabric chairs and see how it works with the existing table. If it doesn't work I can get a new table.

I will soon be having the painting and the electrical work completed. ( can't wait to get rid of all the tv wires )


I have to find a light fixture that will work over the wood table but if I do decide to change table at some point the light fixture may not work with the new table.
So not really sure what to do about this.


Another area of focus is lighting.
I am not a huge lover of recessed
lighting/high hats but I want the ability to have a lot of light when needed. I have decided that I am getting the recessed lighting.
I suppose after electrical work is done and the fixture is in I can work on lamps either floor or table ones. Just not sure about the table.

My original dilemma was where to put the painting. I have propped it on a table to give me the feel of what it would be like in this space. I suppose I could hang it there. What's one more hole in the wall??! I have already made tons of holes and paint swatches that need to be fixed up.

I also need to find something that is balanced above the couch.
I have put this mirror there temporally.

Seeing your painting on the table makes me wonder what it would look like if you bought an easel to display. You can move it around if you want to change it and you wouldn't need to put any holes in the wall.

Two tone paint into the wall, doors and corners (gloss/similar gloss or flat) BEAR would be effective amount, added to your awesome ideas. The color of your wooden floors, furnitures, electronics are match exactly of modern design today. Your lightings idea depend the height of your studio type, mostly seen with 19 or more round steps two story houses.

Not certain of the height of the studio.
Standard is 8ft right?

What are your thoughts about lighting for the space?

Because so many people have made comments, I won't say much, except that my parents had exactly that colour of couch (same/similar fabric) and two matching arm chairs. The carpet wasn't shag, but almost white. They had a 48": round glass table, with a teak base that went extremely well with it all. There were never any small children there (glass table can be a hazard)..

I didn't see that you had decided against putting the painting above the couch. Above the same couch, my parents had 3 paintings Middle one centered), all the same size (approx. 24" wide and a few inches taller). They were about 16/18" apart.
