We are here debating painting ourselves or maybe hiring someone to help us change the colors in the main areas...We already spent thousand on it...and have other projects and plans.

I have to admit that we look at the new color and can totally tell the difference and love it so far. Wall and trim can now be differentiated and have personality! Amen!

I really wished I would have gone with Colonnade from day 1, almost did. I was just too tired, under pressure and it looked too dark downstairs at night lol among many other factors. Oh well, there is nothing that can't be fix, we will see.

I think paint color is so hard. Painting a small spot on the wall really can't do it justice. I kind of think I did what you did and picked something too light. But I like mine. Here is a horrible photo that doesn't do it justice.

at the beginning of this process I never would have thought I would have whitish walls. But I like them and think I will like them more once I decorate (red and gold are going away). I hope to repaint my son's room in a couple of months and will definitely be considering worldly and collonade.

We all learned a lot about color lol. Actually I like yours better than my 1st result cuz at least it is all the same color. You have darker furniture and that helps a lot. All my decor is light colors which made it worst amd blah.

Today I am painting the small hallway and laundry room so this week when I get home I see the pretty color and then decide to keep going or not. Hubby looooves it now. That is the feeling I want it....love lol

I changed all my casement windows and replaced them with Marvin Ultimate, clad outside in coconut cream. The sample I had seen did not seem to have so much yellowish undertone as it does in the installed windows. The matching color I found for the trims is Sherwin Williams Shoij White and I intend to use it. I wanted to use a silver-sagey color for the body of the house but I do not seem to find the correct one that goes with Shoij White . I tried 8-9 of them, some too light, some too dark, some too blue. I am down to 3 which are not as bad as others but still not right, all Sherwin Williams, as that is what my painter uses: Unusual Grey (appears to light in sunlight next to the trim color and some blue undertones appear to come out), Acacia Haze (seems a bit too green and I did not want a too green house) and Evergreen fog (seems too brown, very military green, too saturated in the sun). So I think I am totally on the wrong track and willing to go in any direction that work with Shoij white trims and black doors. Any suggestion? The house is a big, boxy colonial, with many casement windows that move the look toward a more contemporary feel, no closeness to other houses, and lot of very tall trees, evergreen an oaks all around..

@aldovini Describe your "perfect silver-sagey" color - what does it look like, how is it different compared to the other colors you've tried?

Look at SW Dorian Gray or SW Comfort Gray very pretty....gray with green tones.....they are perfect with SW Shoji White!

Thanks. I will go and get samples. My problem is that 'on paper' (i.e. SW paper samples) I like a lot of colors, all those I tried. I have tried: Escape gray, Evergreen Fog, Rare gray (these three are a bit too brown), Oyster Bay (beautiful but too light), Acacia Haze (slightly too green), Magnetic gray (this is way too light), Unusual gray, Illusive Green (this is too dark and has too much black in it). When I try them outside and look at them in different lights (full sun, shade etc) there are problems with each of them. My favorite of all is Unusual gray but in bright sunlight is is too light next to Shoij white and possibly a bit too blue. I need enough contrast with the trims or the facade will look too plain. It seems I need a C4 level reflectivity to have enough contrast in bright sunlight (very different than inside results). I am afraid Comfort Gray (217-C2), in the same series of Oyster Bay (217-C3) and Acacia Haze (217-C4) which I like, will be too light. I am trying to avoid to install shutters, as they make no architectural sense with casement windows, many three or four pane. Therefore, I have been considering the possibility that I need to go away from silver-sage colors and move to something completely different. It could be that the Dorian Gray suggestion may work. I'll take more, if any of you have more, and go and buy all the samples and try them this weekend.

It's sounds like you are wanting somewhat darker wall colors. I had colonial revival stone with the darker cream trim and it looked great. Highly recommend it. I just needed to lighten up my space.

Grab a chip or sample of Naturalist Gray N380-5 from Behr at The Home Depot. Sherwin-Williams should be able to match this one fairly well.

Thank you for this post! Does anyone have a suggestion to go with SW China Doll Trim ??? I would love to have a light light gray look, but am going crazy with patches all over my wall . I Have tried SW requisite, colonnade gray, mindful , anew, versatile, PPG City Streets, SW Light French Gray, and nothing looks right. Intellectual gray looks way too green, and Amazing Gray looks blah and makes the trim look yellowy. I have hired a SW paint expert, but she wasn't very helpful, although very very sweet. I thought, maybe a color instead? SW Silvermist ? Thank you thank you thank you for your help!!!

If you have yellow-ish trim and you want it to look more white, you either have to use a wall color with even more yellow or a darker tan type color. Blues and cool grays will just make it look even more yellow. And too light a color will not make the trim look light and bright in contrast.

Thank you so much for the advice. Do you have any color suggestions? SW China doll is supposed to be a light beige/greige, but it has peachy undertones. It looks like the color of linen to me.

Either choose something darker on the same strip or you could go lighter with aesthetic white and have lighter walls and darker

Wow! Thank you so much for your comments Truey!!!! I am afraid that Bungalow beige and Dhurrie Beige are way too beige.?? I have Universal Khaki right now on the wall, and I am trying to get away from the beige. I have a 2 story living room, so the color is large and plays with lots of shadows. I loved Sticks and Stones with my trim, but it is way too dark for what I am looking for.

The trim doesn't look like china doll, but I love that the Pavillon looks gray.

Truey, I want to thank you so very much for your incredible suggestion. I went and got Pavillon beige and Balanced Beige and it actually looks the very perfect soft grey that I had been searching for!!! I was so afraid of Beige... But it is amazing how different colors look in different lights and with different trim. I can rest after 2 weeks and 13 samples painted on my wall. If anyone else is looking for a soft grey that goes perfectly with SW China Doll trim, Please try the Balanced Beige or Pavillon Beige and don't be afraid of the word "Beige" ! WAHOOOO!!! Thank you again!!!

We have Victorian wood trim in our house and I'd love to have gray paint but it just doesn't look right. So I got a beige color as well and it looks tan in some lights but a cool soft greige in others. I just have a lot of gray in terms of my furniture and accessories and it works out ok.

Sometimes we do have "bossy" trim that we have to deal with and we can't have exactly the wall paint we want, but it works out in the end.

Hope you post pics! Also remember that cooler light bulbs will help tone down the warmth as well.

I Need help with ideas for my exterior trim. The house is currently a darker brown and the trim a dark Olive. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the color names are. I want to paint the trim cream so it looks happier and more modern.

So just changing the trim color? You have no idea the exterior stucco paint color? Does it have a bit of green undertone or more gold?

Just the trim. No idea of the color, no paint cans left. Prior owner had it paint last yr. It doesn't look green to me at all. It look a very solid brownish color to me, probably more goldish.

Ok got my SW paint fan...and yes that Dapper Tan has a bit of green in it...is that Dapper Tan the trim color on the house? I think so..

Ok found this and it looks like the two colors to the left are your two colors...they have suggested softer Tan with it...looks nice not to light with that dark stucco...

Home Interiors with Ease, Dapper tan is the house, The current trim is apparently best bronze SW 6160, based on the ext paint I found in the basement solely.

Is softer tan going to be too dark or too cream? I will get a sample. I cancelled the painter not doing another rush decision lol.

I think the softer Tan will look very light compared to the stucco color and in daylight...anything lighter I think will be to stark in contrast.

Help! I have Ralph Lauren Fairview Dome trim and Sisal for the walls ALL through my house. I also have plantation shutters throughout that match the fairview dome (never doing that again), so the price isn't right to

I'm finding that Agreeable Gray is turning lavender next to the trim. A designer suggested going lighter than my trim to SW Origami White, which is also pulling a hint of blue next to the cream/yellow trim. I'm hoping to stay over 60 LRV because the house is quite dark.

Look at SW Shoji white and SW Worldly Gray it is a perfect combo...

Beautiful! My main issue is that I can't afford to paint my trim and replace my plantation shutters, so my trim is a pretty dark cream. I think that's why I'm getting the blue/purple undertones. Here is a pic of my trim - RL Fairview Dome.

still look at SW Worldly Gray it still should appear very neutral against the Fairview.

Can you do the Fairview dome at 50% ?

Gray walls are on the way out and white/cream is starting to be hot

Alrighty ... I appreciate everyone's feedback. SW worldly gray was the first not to turn blue/purple on me, but it's just too dark for my space. So, fingers are crossed that I can deal with the cream trim and white(ish) walls.

Mix Worldly gray at 50% it will be almost a white with gray undertones...so surprised Worldly Gray is so soft and light?? My entire home is Worldly Gray and it looks so very light....be sure it is only mixed by Sherwin Williams store to insure it is mixed true to color.

Yeah ... I think it's the gray undertones that are making my trim look more yellow and the almost white paints "bluish". I will shout from the roof tops never to do a dark cream trim! :)

That is why so many have a dilemma when trying to paint walls gray in a kitchen with golden oak cabinets it makes gray look blue:( you really have to pick a gray with a lot of green undertones like mindful gray. I would bite the bullet and paint your trim white than you can paint the walls anything you want!...if you paint walls white it will make your trim even more yellow?? Lose lose situation;/
