I had not heard that quote. I like it.

They say moles and voles don't like castor bean plants--they don't like the roots. The entire plant is poisonous, but pretty. I grow it as an annual. That won't help for awhile since you can't plant the seeds until it gets warmer (like sunflower seeds).

I love that nifty wedding dress. I have a cousin getting married in August. She looks like a model and everything at this wedding will be top-notch. I keep teasing her that I could give her great advice on a red-neck wedding. She's marrying a great guy and he's a hunter/fisherman. She laughs at me and says, "Thanks, Heidi. I really appreciate it, but NO. Please, NO."

Heidi.....LOL....Castor Beans are Perennial out here. The moles/voles took the liberty of having one hell of a good time right next to a Castor Bean plant that is about 8 ft tall. I had read that voles/moles did not like Castor Bean but obviously that is a myth...haha! Well maybe it works for some people....

Isn't gardening 73%-98% myth? LOL It's amazing how something will work for someone, but not for another. I think gardeners are part detective!

My mom has tried everything she can think of to ward off snakes. The old time trick is to put down moth balls. Then they found a snake curled around a moth ball taking his morning nap and decided maybe that was a myth, too! She resists the suggestion she needs a dog! Heidi

Heidi, interesting....moth balls and snakes. I have not heard of that one. What kind of snakes does your Mom have? Garden Snakes? Do the snakes cause damage or does your Mom just despise snakes? We have lots of snakes here but none of them cause damage (that I am aware of)......I can not stand snakes. I stepped on one and OMG......I don' know if it was a Rattlesnake but I did not want to hang around to find out............ I don't think dogs keep the snakes away! They don't at my house...LOL!

It's rained 2 nights and we are loving it. Well, there are 2 groups. One group of farmers who are drinking coffee and laughing. The other group is pitching a fit, grinding their teeth and stomping around in the mud. I'm happy, happy, happy. Love it when the rain comes down soft and soaks into everything. I put up an archway for my vining plants so we'll see how that works this year. Most of my tomatoes died--high winds one night. I'm not surprised, though. Will have to buy some at the nursery and replant. Heidi

A wonderful hearty plant of Lavender Provence. a great addition to my garden. Then 2 darling solar butterflies. a bright pair of gardening gloves for those trimming jobs. I love this sweet package.
