Recommended MH light?

Years ago, I had a 1000W MH light. Sold it a while back.

This year, I used a makeshift CFL setup to start veggies, but it was tight since I have a large garden.

So I thought upgrading to a 250 or 400 w MH might be the way to go. Mostly since I can mount higher up, still get sufficient intensity, and have a larger growing area (next year I'll be starting about 500 onion plants, 50 tomatoes, etc).

Should I use a standard cheap MH bulb, or one with either more red or more blue?
