We purchased a custom built home (1984) we love. I guess it is considered Mid Century Mod- The house plans are not available - lost throughout the years and the city does not have records dating this far back. We know the home needs lots of updating and are prepared mentally and financially for the "big event"

We want to update, keeping the character of mid century mod - putting the majority of budget and talent into the kitchen which is the heart of our home. The current kitchen gets a complete gut job.

Now is the time to plan. I have a few questions I hope someone here on Houzz can answer....

1. What style would this interior ceiling (beam) be called? It has a texture not popcorn on the ceiling but not on the drywall encasements.

2. How can I add task lighting - both over an island to be construct in the center of the kitchen and the living areas. Some type of modern cable system maybe? We love the celestial windows which provide great light during the day... however I need to add lighting for evening hours.

3. Quartz or granite?

4. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated in this planning stage - like wall colors - flooring tile due to concrete slab flooring and high humidity of FL

5. Just throw out anything that comes to mind.... except RUN - we are committed to this project.
