House Trim: White or Black?

We need our house trim painted, and rather than just repaint it white, I like the idea of black trim. No need to worry about neighborhood association regulations. I looked and looked for an app that would allow me to upload a photo of the house, then show me how it would look altered, but no such app seems to exist. So, I did a very crude job in Photoshop, turning the trim black, but still it's hard to get an idea.

What do you think? Anyone have house trim in black? Or know of some good examples? If anyone knows of an app to upload a photo to and then play with paint colors, that would be pretty amazing.

black around the inside window frames. white outside. white columns, black fascia. remove the shutters, they are far to thin for that window, and you really don't need them.

Your idea to update with black trim is spot on. I have seen it in real life and it is very cool.

Maybe you will get lucky and groveraxle - Houzzer who is amazing at doing what you are asking for will chime in and show us?

Absolutely no question White. Classic and appeals to everyone. Too risky with the black.

Black or dark charcoal! Everyone does white, take a risk, you'll love it and be glad you did!

Some thoughts. Black is trendy, white is classic. Depending on where you live and your sun exposure,black might fade. On the other hand if you get a lot of rain white will show the moss much faster. Also if you hate the black it will be harder to cover later.

I agree you could go with a darker grey. But the black would be too Morticia Addams for my taste. I love the house and want to see the inside.

Leave your trim white but consider black on just the windows. You could try just one as a test to see how you like it before completing the rest.

Bette P has a point but it's still the traditional white look. Although if it is white currently the black may not stick to the current long term due to heat on black lifting. Possibly something in between not as drastic like Benjamin Moore's Ashphault, Kendall Charcoal or Raccoon Hollow.

I believe both Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore's websites allow you to upload a house photo and try their paints on the photo.

I tried Sherwin Williams, but the way it seemed to work was to upload a photo and then their program could duplicate the colors from that photo you like, but not alter the photo in any way.

Sorry to respond so late. Sherwin Williams does have an app that identifies similar paints from an uploaded photo, but I remember using something on my desktop that let you 'paint' colors onto your house photo.
