Like the room with the two chairs that match the couch by the console! I just looked back. I'd do a simple thin framed large round mirror above the fireplace. Something like the Minerva..then work with things you have to do the mantle. Not two items on each side.

I see a larger piece of white coral on a lucite stand... it's elegant and not necessarily beach theme.

Would also look nice on top of a stack of hardback books on the coffee table.

Wish one or the other of your silver pieces adjacent to the mantle could fit on the ledge.....

Yes, you can mix metals. Certainly. Look at jewelry. It's fine in your home. Gold in the coffee table-and here I lean toward glass topped to not take up space- and gold again up on the mantel?

My attention goes to the dark mantle. That dark needs to be repeated in the room. I think that is why we're seeing dark coffee tables suggested. We just got the room opened up again. I think dark wood would close it up again? You have it in the arms of your chaise and if we can get it into at least a chair pillow at the other end of the room I'll be ok. Or tone the FP down to go with the console- Bleached wood?

What I esp like about this gray zebra (it's the reverse of the one I showed you) is the tie in with your large art, it's unexpected (at least in my neighborhood) and, come on, it's just the most fun. Enough said. There are plenty of others that would look equally wonderful.

Love your space so calm and comfy! Here are a few suggestions...I absolutely loved your large white art over the fireplace..it looked fabulous!! I would hang a set of matching mirrors over the sofa or a hugh floor mirror tucked behind the sofa.....it will reflect the beautiful decor on the other wall..

It is a nice smaller scale size and doesn't overpower my space. Thought I would just share since you mentioned the gold/silver accents and it's glass and would show off your zebra :)

This wall above the sofa is great for paintings, of course. It will add some color to the room. These are for example.

Also, mirror could be used, too. Your room already has some wooden stuff, such example could be great for your room

also wondering why you have changed up the furniture arrangement? Your original layout was so pretty and gave the room a more layered look rather than all furniture along the walls?? I would consider changing it back.

I had been thinking about narrow arched mirrors like Home Interiors posted for your two recessed areas which will have to be addressed eventually. (really liked suggestions by decoenthusiaste early on.) BUT that huge wood mirror is stunning and I think that is what you should do. So awesome. Would it tie in w/ your console?

was thinking about the cubby sides of the fireplace...I would wallpaper the back in a metallic grasscloth wallpaper and remove candlesticks from mantle and use them on your coffee table eventually....

add large candle sconces in the cubby sides of the fireplace for a simple elegant look...your fireplace and art should be the focal point..here are a some candle sconces I love from Zgallery that are a wonderful size and would be all you need on both sides...Fabulous!They are between 28"- 40" in length

First of all beautiful home, Julie. And maybe you could consider something like this except with the couches and chairs flipped. Of course we always recommend more plants. Adding some well-placed fresh and vibrant plants goes a long way in bringing a room to life! Good luck!

I like the sconces for the nooks especially if you get the luminaire candles flickering there every evening. Of course, you'll go broke buying batteries but soooo worth it. I think they could be a little meatier than those from Z Galleries but they are beautiful.

That coffee table is nice but to small for your room it is only 24"x46" it is very inexpensive so you could actually push two together and form a 48"x 46" table....might look very chic!:))

Julie. How much space is between the sofa edge and edge of chairs angled by the console. I'm curious because of the suggestion that the coffee table is too small and suggested putting two together. If a 48" coffee table is 18" from the sofa that would take it to 66". I don't think you should fill that center space with a large coffee table which may somewhat inhibit movement around the room. JMHO. The 46" table is the size you thought you would like.

I think the layout should go back to the original with the chairs in front of fireplace and one chair with ottoman on far side of room...I really don't like all the furniture lined around the walls..so with that said a large almost square table would look amazing! That table is only 24" wide very slender for that size room and sofa..sorry:(it's not the length of the table it is the width that just doesn't work....just something to think about.

sofas are about 38" deep by 88" long

coffee table is 32" x 54"

have 18-19" from edge of table to front of sofa

a 24" wide table would be way to slender even in this 12x12 space...her room is larger..I am guessing....

The open area in the center is 99 inches from the edge of the sofa to the console table. The sofa is 66 inches long. The length of the room from the front edge of the chairs by the fireplace to the edge of the sofa near the front of the room is 111 inches"

I love the Restoration Hardware console table and have hung nine antique prints between the windows.

Starting to wonder if I should abandon the console table and just put the chairs across from the sofa with the coffee table in between. Unfortunately, I don't have another good spot in the house for this console table.

sorry don't want to bug you just want to make sure the sizes suggested will work in your space...you have plenty of room for sure..even with a 48" wide table you will have a good 25" or more all around the table if centered..if 18" from front of sofa you will have 33" traffic/walking space on the other side...

a 24" wide table will look very small...the length of 46-48 is great just need more width...round would look very nice too!

I love your layout! The original one..with the chairs in front of fireplace..if you do a mirror above sofa it will reflect your sofa table and art/lamps very nice..you need all that furniture with the size of your room.

Julie. Did you go back to this arrangement instead of the one with chairs flanking the console. I was under the impression you were settled on the chairs flanking the console. In any event, the 46" coffee table is good for your 66" sofa. Can be a little wider but I would not go more than 30"-34".

I don't really like those chairs angled flanking the console...it just is not a good set up for conversation..those chairs should be closer together....cozy in front of the fireplace.

Julie. Earlier you noted you sofa was 87" and just now you indicated 66". A little confusion on my part, which is not that unusual. LOL. Please keep console and lamps with artwork. Looks great. Have you tried the two matching chairs directly adjacent to each end of sofa with the chair and ottoman angled next to the console on the FP side. Would not completely block the FP. Just a suggestion.

If everyone would read posted comments, you would see most of your questions have already been answered by the poster. She has moved the furniture almost every imaginable location and has posted pictures above. She has said did not like walking into the room and seeing the back of the sofa and that her favorite layout is this one:

I would just like to tell you you have lovely furniture but it is put in the wrong area . You want to focus on the fireplace so move the 2 chairs closer to like where the picture is taken from and the chair and autumn in the corner near fire place but off to the side not in ground of the fireplace because like I said you should when you walk in the room look at the fire place and not it covered up.

That's all I am doing..everybody else had her moving her furniture layout..all she asked for was art..coffee table and mirror suggestions...I liked her original layout best..thought it should of just stayed put...

Let's go back to those and rugs!

Move the chairs near the fireplace to the corners. Have the sofa face the fireplace, and use the long table behind it. The chair in the lower right could probably go near the arch.

The art over the fireplace is much to large. It needs space around it.

Thank you ALL for your feedback. I chose these piece because I really love them, but frustrated with pulling everything together. I'm very visual, so know what I like when I see it, but am lacking vision when it comes to pulling things together. My sense is there's no cohesion because I'm missing everything in the middle of the room that will draw the room together. The pieces that will help pull everything together are a rug and coffee table. Bottom line is...

1. I'm very drawn to symmetrical design, so the two white chairs in front of the fireplace appeal the most to me.

2. The art above the fireplace is a huge statement piece when you walk in the front door. I've received mixed reviews as to whether it should be above the mantel or on the wall. When it's on the wall behind the sofa, it looks very nice too, but not as much of a statement. I think a leaning mirror could be nice behind the sofa or even a large mirror hanging horizontally above the sofa. The room is very rectangular (longer than wide) so a mirror on the wall would open the room a bit.

3. I'm drawn toward a more sisal type rug or something with a subtle design. It needs to be at least 9 x 12 to fit under front legs of furniture.

4. One last consideration is whether to hang a light fixture in the center of the room. I had it wired for one when we added the recessed lights. Crazy thought is to get rid of all the mercury glass decor and go with more of a gold metal coffee table or a zebra ottoman I already own and add a few gold accents. It would add some interest to the room and I can picture a pop of bright pink floral arrangement on the coffee table. The second picture is from the shop where I purchased my slipcovered pieces and I love the gold against the white/chocolate brown/gray accent pieces. I think this is what I picture for this room, but trying to make all of it work with the wood Restoration Hardware pieces. *Sigh*. It's a little more chic than the rest of my house (which is very casual and comfy with big furniture and muted colors), but I picture this room to be more of an adult room and want to make it cozy, yet fun.

Put that Zebra ottoman on top of the pelt and a textural rug....do a hugh gold mirror behind the sofa..it sounds fabulous!

I agree your oversized art on that mantle is amazing...I am not one to Pay attention to the rules I love to break them!:)

Thanks Julie. What HIWE said is spot on. If you are planning to add a some gold glitz, can't go wrong with Kathy Ireland floor lamp I posted earlier. Use what you have first and getting the rugs situation taken care of first will help you figure it out.

Place the cow hide and Zebra bench in front of the sofa and look at it for a little while. Then see if a jute-like rug is what you picture.
